New mirror system to eliminate the blind spot for Mercedes-Benz trucks: The improved mirror system with which the new Mercedes-Benz Atego and Axor trucks are now equipped provides better visibility and almost completely eliminates the blind spot. The improved mirrors provide a view of the area immediately to the side of the vehicle, which was previously a blind spot. Now any pedestrians or cyclists in this area are clearly visible in the mirror system. This considerably reduces the danger in critical situations such as stopping at traffic lights on junctions. The mirrors have a smaller radius of curvature, allowing the driver to see a larger area next to the vehicle. DaimlerChrysler is equipping the new Atego and Axor trucks with the new mirror system immediately, though it will only become mandatory from 2007 according to the new EU guideline.
