Berlin/Stuttgart. It was clear from the public’s reaction that ELLE and Mercedes-Benz have once again demonstrated their instinct for highly promising newcomers. At the invitation of both brands, Spanish designer Xavi Reyes showed his current collection at the official venue at the Brandenburg Gate and thrilled everyone with his unisex creations.
Both ELLE and Mercedes-Benz share a passion for supporting young design talent. For the tenth time, the two brands invited an up-and-coming designer to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin and in doing so gave him an opportunity to show his creations on a large stage. Xavi Reyes is a graduate of the Spanish Escuola de Arte No2 and of Central Saint Martins College in London. He has already worked for several Spanish fashion houses and in 2013 he launched his own independent label in Madrid. In 2015 he showed his collection for the first time at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid and at the very first attempt made it through to be one of the three finalists in the renowned competition “Who’s on Next” at Spanish Vogue.
Designs by Xavi Reyes combine the feminine and the masculine, the futuristic and the traditional. Unisex fashion is a central theme for the 27-year-old designer and so angular styles, asymmetries, muted colours and expansive silhouettes make many of his designs universal. Inspired by his home in Extremadura, he disrupts the melancholic severity with romantic elements such as white crocheted lace, frills or oriental patterns, which are typical of this region of southern Spain. All of this is combined with sandals, which are the product of a collaboration between Xavi Reyes and The Art Company.
Since 1995, Mercedes-Benz has established itself internationally as a partner for selected fashion events. The brand is currently engaged with over 50 fashion platforms globally, including, for example, the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Weeks in Madrid, Amsterdam and Berlin and the renowned Festival International de Mode et de Photographie in Hyères.
With 46 international editions in over 90 countries, ELLE belongs to one of the largest and best known media brands in the world and is the bestselling high end fashion magazine in Germany. Thanks to its particular instinct for design talent, the fashion magazine has demonstrated exceptional fashion expertise.
