Mercedes-Benz buses and trucks for Czech transport company: ICOM Transport receives 2000th Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle

In February the handover took place of the 2000th Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle to the fleet of the Czech transport company ICOM Transport. The milestone vehicle was handed over by Ulrich Bastert, Head of Sales and Marketing Mercedes Benz Trucks, and Till Oberwörder, Head of Sales Daimler Buses, and received by Zdenek Kratchovil, General Manager of ICOM Transport a.s., and the Chairperson of the Board Katerina Kratchovilova.
The milestone bus is one of 68 Mercedes-Benz Intouro buses which are extending the bus fleet of ICOM. The major delivery is to take place in the first quarter of this year. At the end of 2013 100 Mercedes-Benz buses were supplied to ICOM.
"We are proud that our high-quality Mercedes-Benz vehicles are making their contribution towards the economic success of ICOM and that they permit efficient and competitive delivery and transportation services", Till Oberwörder said at the celebratory handover.
The milestone bus has a length of 12.14 m, 50 seats and room for 31 standing passengers and is driven by a six-cylinder in-line engine, the Mercedes-Benz OM 926 LA model with a displacement of 7.2 l, 210 kW (286 hp), a maximum torque of 1120 Nm and BlueTec technology.
"At ICOM environmental protection is very important", Zdenek Kratchovil emphasised in his speech, adding: "blue and white in the company logo are symbolic of our commitment with regard to the preservation and cleanliness of our blue planet. In the period from 2008 to 2013 the average fuel consumption was cut by nearly three litres per 100 km. By purchasing new, environmentally acceptable and economical vehicles we have succeeded in reducing the emissions of nitrogen oxides, greenhouse gases and particulate matter by up to 500 t per annum."
The ICOM fleet, which consists to a great extent of Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks and Intouro buses, has also been extended to include a new Mercedes-Benz Actros 1845, a tractor unit with a low frame, 450 hp and 18 t perm. GVW.
The cooperation between Mercedes-Benz and ICOM in the bus and coach segment has been in existence since 1998. In the past 15 years a total of 1000 buses and coaches have been ordered and delivered. The ICOM today comprises over 700 Mercedes-Benz Intouro model buses. The highly economical and functional bus was specially developed for rural transport such as regional, excursion and school bus regular service.
The transport company ICOM Transport a.s. was founded in 1996 and is one of the biggest and most modern transport companies in central Europe. The focus of the company is in inner-state and international truck transport and rural transport, and part of the core business is also a network of authorised Mercedes-Benz service workshops and filling stations. ICOM employs a total of 1800 employees and maintains a fleet with 800 buses and coaches and 300 trucks. The average age of the bus fleet is around 3.7 years (the national average is 14 years), that of the truck fleet around 2.5 years. Since the start of cooperation with Mercedes-Benz ICOM Transport has invested approx. 5.8 billion CZK (223 million euros) in the fleet, of which 4.2 billion CZK (161 billion euros) went into the bus fleet. In the past year new vehicles valued at 470 million CZK (18 million euros) were purchased.
