Stat-Attack - Azerbaijan GP: The Baku City Circuit played host to Formula 1 for the fourth time last weekend. The challenging street circuit in Azerbaijan has so far been a happy hunting ground for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport. On Saturday, Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton qualified on the front row for the third time this season. It was also pole position number three in the four races so far contested in Baku. For Valtteri, it was the eighth pole of his Formula 1 career. On Sunday, the Silver Arrows duo capped an excellent weekend by making it four one-two wins out of four races this year. For Valtteri, it was the fifth Grand Prix triumph of his F1 career and a 25th podium finish as a member of the team. Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport have now won three out of four races at the Baku City Circuit, each time with a different driver lifting the trophy.
Junior podium in the ADAC GT Masters, Top Three finish in the ADAC GT4 Germany: Marvin Dienst (GER) and Aidan Read (AUS) of Team Schütz Motorsport booked a third-place finish in the Junior classification for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport in the ADAC GT Masters season opener at Oschersleben. After claiming pole position, the duo seemed to have excellent prospects, but as rain in the race itself made the track conditions increasingly more difficult, Read in the number 36 Mercedes-AMG GT3 was unable to defend the lead through to the end and had to settle for fifth. The other four Mercedes-AMGs in the starting line-up had a hard time in both qualifying sessions. But despite that, the MANN-FILTER Team HTP Motorsport pairing of Indy Dontje (NED) and Maximilian Götz (GER) in the number 47 car still managed to mount two impressive charges through the field. In the first race on Saturday, the duo improved from 23rd on the grid to ninth at the flag, and on Sunday they took their Mercedes-AMG GT3 from 13th into the Top Ten with a P8 finish. On the inaugural weekend of the newly launched ADAC GT4 Germany, GetSpeed Performance Mercedes-AMG Motorsport made it into the Top Three, with brothers Hamza and Jusuf Owega from Cologne in the number 99 Mercedes-AMG GT4 taking the runner-up spot in the first race on Saturday.
Third place and class wins at VLN 3: Mercedes-AMG Motorsport celebrated a first podium finish of the 2019 VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft Nürburgring as conditions in the Eifel forest once again proved unpredictable. In the third round of the endurance competition on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the number 14 Mercedes-AMG Team BLACK FALCON went on an impressive charge through the field. Starting from P16, the quartet of Adam Christodoulou (GBR), Maro Engel (GER), Manuel Metzger (GER) and Dirk Müller (GER) advanced to third place in the course of the four-hour race. Two further Mercedes-AMG GT3s finished in the Top Ten, namely the number 16 sister car in tenth and the number 6 BLACK FALCON Team AutoArena Motorsport in seventh. Two class victories rounded off a good all-round result. The GetSpeed Rooster Rojo Mercedes-AMG GT3 driven by Janine Hill (GBR), Fabian Schiller (GER) and John Shoffner (USA) won the SP9 PRO-AM class. There was also cause for satisfaction at BLACK FALCON Team IDENTICA, with Tobias Müller (GER), Tim Scheerbarth (GER) and Tristan Viidas (EST) in the number 162 Mercedes-AMG GT4 winning the SP10 class, as they had done in the opening fixture of the campaign.
Points in the manufacturers’ championship of the Blancpain GT World Challenge and two victories in the Pirelli GT4 in the USA: DXDT Racing scored valuable points for Mercedes-AMG in the Blancpain GT World Challenge at the Virginia International Raceway. In both races of the Blancpain GT World Challenge America, the team’s driver pairings made it onto the podium in their respective classes. Ryan Dalziel (GBR) and David Askew (USA) were third on Saturday, while George Kurtz and Colin Braun (both USA) finished second on Sunday. Matt Fassnacht (USA) in the number 53 Mercedes-AMG GT4 fielded by Murillo Racing came away from the Pirelli GT4 America with two trophies after winning both sprint races on Saturday and on Sunday.
Top Three finishes in the International GT Open and GT Cup Open Europe: Miguel Ramos (POR) and Fabrizio Crestani (ITA) of SPS automotive-performance and Alessio Rovera (ITA) and Daniel Zampieri (ITA) of Antonelli MotorSport finished second and third respectively in Race 2 of the International GT Open curtain-raiser at the Circuit Paul Ricard. Reigning champions Tom Onslow-Cole (GBR) and Valentin Pierburg (GER) of SPS automotive-performance team also had a successful weekend: after winning the Saturday race in their class, Onslow-Cole also qualified in pole position for the second race. An even better result was achieved by the Austrian amateur drivers of HTP Motorsport, Alexander Hrachowina and Martin Konrad: the duo celebrated class victory in both races of the season opener. The Sports & You team came third in Round 2 of the inaugural GT Cup Open Europe, a result that also brought a class victory for Marcio Basso and Guilherme Salas (both BRA) in their Mercedes-AMG GT4.
Victory in the Special Touring Car Trophy, class victory in the Super Taikyu Series: Mario Hirsch driving a Mercedes-AMG GT3 celebrated a lights-to-flag victory in the season opener of the Special Touring Car Trophy at Oschersleben. Team-mate Josef Klüber made it an extra successful weekend for équipe vitesse with a P3 result in the second race. In the second round of the Super Taikyu Series on the Sportsland Sugo circuit, Endless Sports won the GT4 classification.
