• Mannheim/Münster, Aug 28, 2012 - Münster in Westphalia, which, since 2004, can boast the title of the world's most liveable city, officially inaugurated its first hybrid bus line on 27 August 2012. With the ceremonial handover of two Mercedes-Benz Citaro G BlueTec Hybrid vehicles to the Münster municipal transport service, represented by its manager of Münster’s public transport company Eckhard Schläfke, by Mr Ulrich Piotrowski, responsible for the market launch of hybrid and electric buses at Mercedes-Benz, the Westphalian city once again made good on its pledge to contribute to climate protection through the introduction of new bus technology.
  • Stuttgart/Singapore, Jul 18, 2012 - The Mercedes star will soon be seen more often in the city-state of Singapore. Daimler Buses has once again received a major order from the Southeast Asian country and will begin delivering the first of a total of 450 Citaro buses there in fall 2012. Plans call for the deliveries to be completed by the end of 2015. The vehicles were ordered by Singapore’s SBS Transit, which is responsible for most of the local public transportation in the city of over five million inhabitants.
  • Stuttgart, Mar 14, 2012 - Electromobility is nothing new either to local public transport or more specifically buses. Today more than two thirds of German public transport services are electrically run. As early as 1969 Mercedes Benz presented the world’s first hybrid bus at the IAA. Nevertheless this drive technology has still not been able to assert itself on a wide scale; a situation which is now being tackled from a number of different angles.
  • Stuttgart/München, Sep 23, 2011 - Presumably on the basis of the positive results from the first hybrid bus deployed in the Munich administrative district, the Munich Regional Transport vehicle fleet now also includes a Mercedes-Benz Citaro G BlueTec Hybrid Omnibus. The handover of the vehicle for its intended use took place on 22 September 2011, when Ulrich Piotrowski, the Market Launch Manager for Mercedes-Benz hybrid and electric buses, presented a symbolic key to Jörg Schuchtmann, the Operations Manager of Busservice Watzinger GmbH & Co. KG.
  • Stuttgart/Hamburg, Aug 18, 2011 - The bus of the future is up and running in Hamburg – ultra-quiet and with zero emissions. Hamburger Hochbahn AG has acquired four Mercedes-Benz Citaro FuelCELL Hybrids under the German "NaBuZ demo" scheme to promote sustainable bus systems for the future.
  • Stuttgart/Geneva, Jul 20, 2011 - Daimler Buses has won another large-scale order. The customer is Transports Publics Genevois (TPG) from Switzerland. The 87 Mercedes‑Benz articulated buses are to be deployed on TPG's 305 km long network in the city of Geneva and its outskirts. The company has a workforce of over 1700 and operates 82 trams together with around 320 buses. The bus fleet consists for the most part of Mercedes‑Benz buses. Delivery of the vehicles is to begin in September 2011.
  • Stuttgart, Apr 21, 2011 - Daimler Buses has once again received a major order, and is now delivering a total of 300 Mercedes-Benz Citaro city buses to Singapore. The vehicles were ordered by Singapore’s SBS Transit, which is responsible for a major part of local public transportation in the city of five million. Over the last five years alone, SBS Transit has invested more than 850 million Singapore dollars (€470 million) in modernizing its bus fleet.
  • Stuttgart, Mar 15, 2011 - Transport operator Tide ASA has ordered 37 EEV (Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicle) variants of the Mercedes-Benz Citaro articulated bus with gas drive. Powered by natural gas, the low-floor urban buses are characterised by their low emissions – particularly when it comes to nitrogen oxides and particulates – and already significantly exceed the Euro 5 emissions values currently in force. The driving force behind the buses is the M 447 hLAG natural gas engine, which is available in two power output variants producing 185 kW (252 hp) and 240 kW (326 hp).
  • Stuttgart, Sep 13, 2010 - Following successful practical trials in December 2009, Stuttgarter Straßenbahnen AG (SSB) has now brought three Mercedes-Benz Citaro G BlueTec Hybrid buses into service, with a further two vehicles due to be delivered later this year. The environmentally-friendly hybrid bus met with an excellent response from passengers during last year's week-long practical trial, and also demonstrated significant fuel savings on the inner-city 42 route, one of the area's most demanding routes with the most varied topography.
  • Stuttgart/Mannheim, Aug 25, 2010 - After just twelve years in production, the 30,000th Mercedes-Benz Citaro has now been delivered. This unprecedented sales tally for an urban bus is testament to the overall success of a flexible modular system. On 25 August 2010 Michael Göpfarth, head of sales at the Mercedes-Benz Bus and Coach Unit of EvoBus GmbH, handed over the record-breaking vehicle to Walter Rathberger and Erich Haider, managing and executive directors of Linz Linien GmbH, at the Mannheim bus factory.
  • Stuttgart, Sep 10, 2009 - Mercedes-Benz was only just celebrating the world premiere of the Citaro FuelCELL Hybrid at the UITP Congress when the bus and coach manufacturer was basking in the success of another notable event: on 8 September the 25,000th Citaro was officially handed over to the customer, infra fürth verkehr gmbh, turning the model into the most successful urban bus ever, and with an end to this illustrious career still nowhere in sight.
  • Stuttgart, Jun 15, 2009 - In an EU-wide call for tenders, Daimler Buses was awarded a contract to supply the public transportation company Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe with 144 Mercedes-Benz Citaro LE city buses. The company will begin delivering the buses to the German capital in October 2009. Deliveries will take place successively over a four-year period, with 50 buses to be delivered before the end of this year. The Mercedes-Benz plant in Mannheim is producing the buses.
  • Stuttgart/Dubai, Mar 24, 2009 - Daimler Buses has been awarded a major contract to deliver 260 Mercedes-Benz Citaro city buses to the emirate of Dubai. Production of the ordered buses is to commence in the first quarter of 2009. The Roads & Transport Authority, which is responsible for expanding the public transportation service in Dubai, is already using 80 Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses.
  • Stuttgart/Abu Dhabi , Oct 24, 2008 - Daimler Buses has been awarded a contract to deliver 100 Mercedes-Benz Citaro city buses to Abu Dhabi. The buses will be used in the public transport system of the city of Al Ain, which has a population of 500,000. Delivery is scheduled to commence in July 2009. Daimler Buses and Abu Dhabi’s Department of Transport have also signed a contract covering comprehensive service and maintenance for the Citaro buses.
  • Stuttgart/Mannheim, Feb 29, 2008 - The Mercedes-Benz Citaro has attained a new manufacturing milestone with the production of the 20,000th model. Michael Göpfarth, Head of the Mercedes-Benz Bus and Coach Unit of EvoBus GmbH, handed over the landmark vehicle to Hermann Pflieger, the owner of Pflieger Reise- und Verkehrs GmbH in Böblingen. This company operates two dozen routes within the Stadtverkehr Böblingen-Sindelfingen (SBS) [Böblingen-Sindelfingen urban transport] network, itself part of the Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund Stuttgart (VVS) [Stuttgart transit and tariff association], and employs more than 120 staff. With a fleet of some 90 buses and coaches, including many Mercedes-Benz Citaro models, the 82-year-old company operates regular-service routes and is also active in the touring and excursion sectors.
  • Stuttgart/Bucharest, Dec 19, 2007 - On December 11, EvoBus Romania S.R.L handed over a further consignment of Mercedes-Benz Citaro urban buses to the Romanian transport operator Regia Autonomă de Transport Bucureşti (R.A.T.B.). These are the first vehicles from a follow-up order for 500 urban buses. Some 500 Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses have already gone into service in the Romanian capital during the course of the past two years. By the end of 2009, R.A.T.B. will have a total of 1000 Mercedes-Benz Citaro urban buses on the road in Bucharest.
  • Stuttgart/Bucharest, Oct 1, 2007 - The Romanian bus operator Regia Autonoma de Transport Bucuresti (R.A.T.B) and the DaimlerChrysler subsidiary EvoBus GmbH signed a contract in mid-September 2007 for the delivery of a second batch of 500 urban buses for the city of Bucharest. At the end of 2006, the Romanian capital had already ordered 500 Mercedes-Benz Citaro city buses, of which the last units were delivered last summer.
  • Stuttgart, Jun 19, 2007 - British Airways has taken delivery of 38 Mercedes-Benz Citaro buses. The vehicles are to be used to transport passengers at Terminal 5 at Heathrow, which is due to open in March 2008.
