The first 56 Citaros were delivered in Budapest on 30 April 2013, right on schedule. Till Oberwörder, Head of Marketing, Sales & Aftersales Daimler Buses, handed over the vehicles in the presence of the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, the Mayor of Budapest István Tarlós, the General Director of the Budapest Transport Centre, Dávid Vitézy, and Messrs Mátyás Dósa and Péter Szepesi, operators of the private bus company VT Transman GmbH.

This year, the trade magazine "busplaner" presented the "International busplaner Sustainability Award 2013" for the first time. Prizes were awarded for outstanding products and ideas in the bus and tourism industry. The award winners received their prizes in 14 categories from the Huss publishing house at the Kempinski Airport Hotel in Munich on 13 December.

The objective seemed impossible: a simultaneous reduction in fuel consumption and exhaust emissions while meeting Euro VI emission standards. In the Record Run Buses 2012 the new Euro VI-certified Mercedes-Benz Citaro urban regular-service bus and the new Setra ComfortClass 500 touring coach demonstrated that the two seemingly conflicting goals can be achieved at the same time. During the Record Run Buses 2012 the five buses covered a total distance of 18,000 kilometres under impartial supervision.

Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles and services captured seven awards in the 15th ETM Verlag’s readers’ choice poll. Nearly 7,700 readers were asked to choose the “Best Commercial Vehicles of 2011” among more than 170 production series, as well as the “Best Brands of 2011” in 22 categories. The awards ceremony was held on May 31 in Perkins Park in Stuttgart.

Red means wait – green means walk: that is the basis of a simple, trailblazing idea in the bus of the future. An idea which will optimise passenger flows both inside and outside the bus. In simple terms, the system uses illuminated door entries which quickly and clearly tell passengers where they may enter and exit. This is just one of the many ideas generated as part of the EBSF (European Bus System of the Future) transport project that will be shown at the Bremen bus show from 24 to 25 May 2011.

This unprecedented sales tally for an urban bus is testament to the overall success of a flexible modular system. On 25 August 2010 Michael Göpfarth, head of sales at the Mercedes-Benz Bus and Coach Unit of EvoBus GmbH, handed over the record-breaking vehicle to Walter Rathberger and Erich Haider, managing and executive directors of Linz Linien GmbH, at the Mannheim bus factory.

EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG and Daimler AG are today launching the joint "e-mobility Baden-Württemberg" initiative. The aim is to turn the birthplace of the automobile into a pioneering region for locally emission-free electric mobility within the next two years. So, Daimler and EnBW clearly show their commitment to their home base: "e-mobility Baden-Württemberg" will contribute to sustainably strengthen the region and its success. The first Mercedes-Benz Citaro is now undergoing tests in Singapore with the SMRT transport authority (Singapore Mass Rapid Transit). This step marks a new milestone for public transport in Singapore, as this is the first low-floor bus in Singapore – and indeed in the whole of South-East Asia.

The most successful city bus of all time is now also being used by the transport company Keisei Bus in Japan, which recently put ten new Citaro articulated buses into operation. The company plans to put five more of the buses into operation in late 2010. Keisei Bus, one of the top mass transit companies in Japan, transports around 250,000 passengers per day. The new buses will primarily be used in east Tokyo.

Daimler Buses has once again won a contract, and as a result will deliver a total of 239 buses to Sardinia by the end of July 2010. The orders were placed by four Sardinian public transit authorities: CTM Cagliari, ATP Nuoro, ASPO Olbia and ATP Sassari. The four companies want to replace more than 60 percent of their fleets of city buses.

It generates no emissions while running, is whisper-quiet and conserves resources: the new Citaro FuelCELL-Hybrid bus from Mercedes-Benz opens up a whole new era in drive technology for urban buses. The newcomer had its world premiere in June 2009 at the UITP Congress (the World Congress of the Inter¬national Association of Public Transport) in Vienna and could be seen in action for the first time on the occasion of the final conference of the HyFLEET:CUTE project in Hamburg. The advent of the Citaro FuelCELL-Hybrid bus means that the future really has arrived: the launch of the prototype will shortly be followed by small series production while next year will see the start of a large-scale test of the Citaro FuelCELL-Hybrid bus on the basis of ten customer vehicles in service in Hamburg. The objective is for further in-service testing in customer fleets to be conducted at European level.

Daimler Buses has once again won two contracts, and as a result it will deliver a total of 425 buses to the Netherlands by December. The biggest contract from the Netherlands to date is for 350 Mercedes-Benz urban and intercity buses, which were ordered by Qbuzz, a private bus operator with headquarters in Amersfoort. The vehicles will be employed in the provinces of Drenthe and Groningen. The second major contract is for 75 natural gas-powered Mercedes-Benz urban buses, which were ordered by Connexxion, the Netherlands’ largest public transport company, with headquarters in Hilversum. The environmentally friendly low-emission natural gas buses will be employed in the Arnhem-Nijmegen region.

At the end of June, Daimler Buses handed the 1,000th Mercedes-Benz Citaro city bus to Bucharest’s mass transit company Regia Autonoma de Transport Bucuresti (RATB). Dr. Eckehard Stengel, Managing Director of EvoBus Romania, symbolically presented the keys to Bucharest’s Mayor Oprescu Tbilder at the festive opening of the new EvoBus Romania location. EvoBus is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Daimler AG.

Today in Berlin, Daimler AG, Deutsche Post DHL, the energy group OMV, the Stuttgarter Straßenbahnen AG public transportation company, and the Finnish oil company Neste Oil took part in a discussion-oriented event titled “Diesel from renewable resources — A step toward zero-emission transportation?”. At the event, the companies presented the initial results of their joint pilot test project focusing on fuel from sustainable production.

"Scalpel please, sister!" is a sentence that might in future not only be heard in a hospital operating theatre, but also in one of the three new, large-capacity ambulances handed over to the Centre of Ambulance Services of the Government of Dubai. From now on, it is the hospital that comes to the patient in Dubai. The three Mercedes-Benz clinic buses were ordered so that rapid medical assistance can be rendered in the event of major emergencies, i.e. accidents or disasters with large numbers of injury victims.

At the World Mobility Forum the Mercedes-Benz Citaro G BlueTec Hybrid urban bus was presented with the 2008 DEKRA environmental award. Clemens Klinke, Chairman of the Board of Management of DEKRA Automobil GmbH, presented the award to Andreas Renschler, member of the Daimler AG Board of Management with responsibility for Daimler Trucks & Daimler Buses, commenting that: "We have awarded the 2008 DEKRA environmental prize for this bus-drive technology because it makes an innovative and lasting contribution to the quality of life of our urban population".
