  • Stuttgart/Munich, Jun 15, 2015 - For the eleventh time in a row the Mercedes-Benz Unimog has been named best Cross-country Vehicle of the Year in the "special-purpose vehicles" category by readers of the specialist journal "Off Road". This year, the "Cross-country Vehicle of the Year" poll had a total of twelve categories. More than 36,000 votes were cast, and 123 vehicles were in the running. The Unimog took first place amongst the special-purpose vehicles with a superb 51.4 percent of the readers' votes.

  • Stuttgart/Burbach, Dec 22, 2014 - The decision-making process was straightforward for the municipality of Burbach in the Siegerland, a region of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. They opted for the new Unimog because it is the perfect vehicle for narrow thoroughfares and steep gradients. It also makes life easier for the driver and protects their health. The vehicle is even helping the municipality of Burbach to achieve the targets from its master plan of "100 percent climate protection" by the year 2050. In addition, this purchase also fitted their budget.

  • Stuttgart, Dec 8, 2014 - At the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Daimler AG handed over a donation of three Unimog U 5023, the ultimate all-terrain vehicle equipped with the latest Euro VI technology, to the 'Technisches Hilfswerk' (THW), the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief. Dr Wolfgang Bernhard, the Board Member responsible for the company's truck and bus operations worldwide, handed over the ignition keys via the THW Foundation, represented by its Chairman Stephan Mayer, MdB (Member of the German Bundestag), to the president of the THW, Albrecht Broemme.

They are undertaking a protracted honeymoon trip in their "mobile home", which goes by the name of the "Glaarkshouse" - a combination of the two adventurers' surnames, Glas and Parks - Jennifer's maiden name.

  • Stuttgart/Munich, Jun 14, 2013 - For the ninth time running the readers of the "Off Road" trade magazine have voted the Mercedes Benz Unimog best off-road vehicle of the year in the "Special vehicles" category. The vote for the "Off-road vehicle of the year 2013" covered thirteen categories with off-road vehicles from 53 manufacturers. Over 74,000 votes were submitted for 125 vehicles. The Unimog came took first place in the special vehicles category with an outstanding 31.1 % of readers' votes.

The average temperature here is 3.3 degrees Celsius – and this average is taken over the whole of the year. And the last snow often does not melt before the end of August – shortly before the new snow falls.

  • Wörth / Berlin, Aug 29, 2012 - At the 9th InnoTrans in Berlin, the leading global trade show for the railway industry (18 through 21 September), Mercedes-Benz will exhibit new implement configurations for the Unimog on rails. The particular interest of the professional circles will be on the Unimog U 400 as a shunting vehicle that is also suitable for clearing snow. The basis is provided by a newly designed powertrain that in addition to a torque converter clutch for pulling heavy loads also includes a crawler gear transmission for very slow operating speeds.

In early 2012, the tropical cyclone "Andrea" brought particular challenges for the Unimog fleet operated out of the Felsenau depot near Feldkirch/Frastanz, which is responsible for road maintenance services on some two-thirds of the roads in the Vorarlberg region.

  • Wörth/Berlin, Nov 7, 2011 - With winter approaching, five new Unimogs are helping keep the streets, squares and open spaces of Berlin and the State of Brandenburg free of ice and snow. Fitted with both gritting and snow-clearing equipment, these vehicles have now been delivered to Klaus-Dieter Tschäpe, owner and general manager of Ruwe GmbH in Berlin. The combined gritting and snow-clearing equipment on the five Unimog U 300 equipment carriers is supplied by Aebi Schmidt, and consists of the Cirron SL 27 snow plough and the Stratos B 20 automatic spreader, giving the Unimog a spreading width of 2.7 metres.

  • Stuttgart, Sep 30, 2011 - Things are definitely looking up at Agritechnica, the world’s largest exhibition of agricultural machinery, taking place from 15 to 19 November 2011 in Hannover. The event’s host, the DLG (German Agricultural Society), is expecting over ten percent more exhibitors, including a number of companies offering their products and services here for the first time. The exhibition programme encompasses agricultural engineering, agricultural equipment and crop management from tilling to harvesting. Two years ago, 355,000 visitors came to Agritechnica, and the expected turnout for 2011 is just as promising.

In order to be able to collect timber efficiently from the forest and deliver it to timber specialists a long way away despite rising diesel prices, Seiner uses a combination of two different methods of transport: His Unimog is fitted with a timber crane superstructure to collect tree trunks from the forest, and then a Unimog truck-trailer unit delivers the goods to the customer.

It was first introduced in 2000 during a symposium in Mainz for experts in road maintenance and repair and was launched afterwards in an unprecedented product show with various attached and mounted implements which was held in all over Germany. In the meantime, two further independent product ranges, the U 300/U 400/ U 500 and the Unimog U 20, have been developed as successors to the classic Unimog with its outstanding off-road mobility.

The Unimog picked up the title of "2010 Cross-Country Vehicle of the Year - Special-Purpose Vehicles Category" after the December issue of the respected Munich-based all-wheel-drive magazine invited readers to vote for a selection of vehicles with off-road capability in a total of eight categories. The OFF ROAD Obelisk award was presented during a special gala evening held at Munich's "Das Schloss" theatre tent. Over 48,000 votes were cast to select the winners among the 97 vehicles nominated by the organisers. The Unimog was the top-scoring model among the special-purpose vehicles with an outstanding 37.9 % of the readers' votes.

  • Paris / Wörth am Rhein, Jul 4, 2008 - In future the road maintenance department of the municipal cleaning services in the French capital - Propreté de Paris - will be working with the Mercedes-Benz Unimog. To this end the municipal authority in Paris purchased a total of nine Unimog U 400 with tunnel washing units by the leading manufacturer of mowing and tunnel cleaning equipment, Mulag based in Oppenau/Black Forest, in 2007. In addition the vehicles come with demountable bodies for grit spreaders, snowploughs and snow clearance units by Schmidt Winterdienst- und Kommunaltechnik GmbH in St. Blasien (Black Forest).
