  • Stuttgart/Wien, Sep 29, 2015 - The first Euro VI-compliant Mercedes-Benz Econic NGT (Natural Gas Technology) has been delivered to Vienna International Airport. The natural-gas-powered truck will operate as a catering truck equipped with a lifting mechanism manufactured by Doll. Econic’s low cab enables a very low delivery height from catering vehicle to plane, which means that all the more widespread types of aircraft, from the Boeing 737 to the Airbus A 380, can be served.
  • Stuttgart/Frankfurt, Jul 23, 2015 - Two Mercedes-Benz Econic 2630 trucks have been handed over to Wisag Aviation Service in Frankfurt, a company specialising in airport services. The vehicles are used to deliver supplies to aircraft ranging from passenger blankets and cushions to magazines and newspapers. In addition these vehicles with their scissorlift bodies can also be used as "medical lifts" for wheelchair users and infirm passengers. "The investment has definitely been worthwhile, as the Econic 2630 is not only efficient and environmentally friendly by virtue of its design.
  • Stuttgart/London, Apr 30, 2015 - On 26 February 2015, the Mercedes-Benz Econic was presented at the CLOCS workshop in London. A tipper, a concrete mixer and a dumper, all based on an 8x4 chassis, have been operating in London since the start of the year.
  • Stuttgart/Wörth am Rhein, Mar 30, 2015 - With effect from March 2015 the Mercedes-Benz Econic will be equipped as standard with the assistance systems Active Brake Assist and Lane Keeping Assist, while adaptive cruise control will be available as an option. Active Brake Assist will initiate braking if necessary, thus potentially preventing rear-end collisions. All this is available a full eight months before the legal deadline of November 2015.
  • Stuttgart, Aug 21, 2014 - It was just one year ago that the Econic underwent a comprehensive upgrade with new diesel engines as well as a new suspension, frame, electronics and a revised cab. Mercedes-Benz has now gone one better with its special-purpose waste collection/short-radius distribution vehicle: the Econic NGT Euro VI with its new M 936 G engine will be launched in August at "Elmia Lastbil Jönköping" in Sweden – an international trade fair for the transport industry from 20 to 23 August 2014.

  • Stuttgart / Wörth, Jul 18, 2011 - The Mercedes-Benz Econic, the advanced, environmentally friendly, low-floor transport vehicle for municipal transportation, consolidation and short-radius distribution applications, continues to dominate in inner-city areas. The latest example of this success is an order from logistics service provider Simon Loos based in the Netherlands for a total of 30 Mercedes-Benz Econic 1828 NGT chassis with eco-friendly natural gas drive. The first vehicle out of the order for 23 semitrailer tractor vehicles and seven chassis has now been handed over at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth.

In Stockholm, the Econic is powered by biogas produced in Sweden from waste water and a proportion of household refuse, meaning that not only is the vehicle an environmentally-friendly way to empty refuse bins, but it is also actively reducing the waste mountain too.

Now that cities such as Stockholm, Paris, Prague, Athens, Berlin or Valencia have decided in favour of this environmentally friendly waste disposal vehicle, Sembcorp Industries, Singapore's largest waste management company, is starting a one-year field trial to assess market acceptance, cost-effectiveness and customer satisfaction.
  • Stuttgart, Feb 19, 2010 - The 2010 model year Mercedes-Benz Econic is setting new standards in terms of engine line-up, safety and comfort. Since 2002 the Econic with natural gas drive has met what are currently the strictest EEV exhaust controls. Now the diesel engines of the Econic are available with BlueTec EEV as standard. Compared with the Euro 5 standard, particle levels under EEV are around 33 percent lower, and as a result the diesel-driven Econic also looks set to become an environmentally friendly winner when it comes to cleaner, better air.
  • Mönchengladbach/ Wörth, Dec 29, 2009 - The first Mercedes-Benz Econic with NGT (Natural Gas Technology) for food distribution operations has been handed over to the ALDI SÜD group of companies in Mönchengladbach. The vehicle is a semitrailer tractor with a high roof and a refrigerated semitrailer. To honour its environmenttal responsibilities in the areas of procurement and distribution, ALDI SÜD decided in favour of an environmentally friendly natural gas engine - this is now being put to the test with this vehicle.
  • Graz, Austria, Dec 9, 2009 - Vienna Technical University and the Graz Energy Agency have teamed up with Mercedes-Benz Austria, Magna Steyr, and the shipping company Frikus to find out how much a natural gas-driven Economic NGT reduces noise and emissions of CO2 and pollutants compared to a conventional diesel-powered truck. To determine this, an all-new Econic NGT 1828 semi-truck is being tested in plant supply operations at Magna Steyr. Daimler provided the test vehicle for this pioneering project, which is being supported by various government authorities, including the Austrian Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology, the State of Styria, and the Environmental Agency of the City of Graz.

  • Stuttgart/Athens, Jul 24, 2009 - The Mercedes-Benz Econic NGT – the ecofriendly special-purpose vehicle for municipal services, collection operations and distribution – keeps city centres cleaner and more pleasant thanks to its low-emission drive system. Recently, the city of Athens decided to deploy the Econic featuring a gas drive system. The Greek capital has ordered 108 new vehicles for urban waste disposal.
  • Stuttgart, Feb 13, 2009 - Last year more than 1500 units of the Mercedes-Benz Econic were ordered for the first time. The milestone vehicle has now been delivered to the municipal cleaning services in Kassel. In purchasing this vehicle, the city of Kassel has now changed over its entire fleet of vehicles, which are used for the disposal of residual waste, bio-waste, bulk refuse, yellow bags and waste paper, to the Mercedes-Benz Econic.
  • Stuttgart, Aug 8, 2008 - Two Mercedes-Benz Econic semi-trailer trucks with a tanker body have just entered service at London Farnborough Airport. The trucks are based on the 18-tonne Econic 1824LL chassis but were fitted with a Jost fifth wheel coupling and converted into 4x2 semi-trailer trucks for transporting hazardous goods at the Mercedes-Benz factory in Molsheim, which specialises in constructing special-purpose vehicles.
  • Stuttgart, Apr 23, 2008 - When it was first unveiled at the "Entsorga" environment fair in 1998 as the true specialist for municipal, waste collection and short-radius distribution applications, the Mercedes-Benz Econic fused into a single vehicle all of the characteristics which were expected at that time of vehicles from many different sectors: from waste disposal trucks and fire engines to airport ground service vehicles, from tankers and furniture delivery trucks to milk collection vehicles and fuel oil delivery trucks. For the first time, the low-floor cab with up to four seats offered the ideal credentials for getting in and out quickly, as well as offering plenty of space for the driver of a waste collection truck and its crew.
