On the cusp of the 1960s, the economy in western Europe at least had overcome the aftermath of the Second World War and many countries were beginning to flourish once again. Western Europe was growing closer, with previously bitter enemies becoming partners or even friends. A solid border divided western and eastern Europe into two blocs.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks is headed toward posting another sales record. The company achieved its previous all-time high last year, when it sold 105,000 trucks of over six tons in Europe. The company expects sales next year to return to normal levels as last seen in 2005 and 2006.
