A million kilometres, accumulated in short-radius distribution work on Austria's Alpine roads – no problem at all for the Mercedes-Benz Atego 917, as our example from the company BS Transport in the Austrian village of Tristach shows. Still with its original engine and never having needed repairs other than as required during regular servicing and maintenance, this truck offers a fine example of the model's economy and longevity.

Mercedes-Benz do Brasil continues to register a high level of orders for medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks. One of Brazil’s largest construction companies, Camargo Corrêa has now ordered 115 Mercedes-Benz trucks in order to upgrade its fleet. The order encompasses a wide range of products, including medium-duty Atego, heavy-duty Axor and Actros trucks. As part of the government’s Growth Acceleration Program (“Programa de Aceleração do Crescimento”/PAC), Camargo Corrêa is currently involved in a number of infrastructure projects for expansion of roads and rail systems.

On the occasion of the International Motor Show (IAA) Commercial Vehicles in Hanover a jury of international experts voted the new Mercedes-Benz Atego 12-tonner "Truck of the Year 2011". The commercial vehicle journalists from 23 European countries paid tribute to the innovative technology of the Mercedes-Benz Atego: on the one hand, the new Atego, as highly variable all-round talent ideal for short-radius distribution work; on the other hand, the series-built Atego 1222 L EEV BlueTec Hybrid, seen by the jury as paving the way for alternative drive systems.

Even among the broad range of series-production trucks available from Mercedes-Benz, you may not always find the precise vehicle needed for a specific transport requirement. This is where Mercedes-Benz Custom Tailored Trucks (CTT), based in Molsheim/France, steps into the breach. For ten years now, on occasions working in cooperation with specialist partners, they have provided a 'one stop shop' for special-purpose vehicles. In time for the IAA, CTT is broadening its range with four vehicles based on the Mercedes-Benz Actros and Atego.

At the presentation of the Baden-Württemberg Environmental Technology Award yesterday evening, Baden-Württemberg’s Environment Minister Tanja Gönner presented the first prize in the “Emissions Reduction, Treatment and Sequestration” category to Georg Weiberg, Head of Truck Product Engineering at Daimler. The award, which was presented this year for the first time, honors outstanding environmental technologies from the state of Baden-Württemberg that make a major contribution toward increasing resource efficiency and reducing strain on the environment.

Today in Berlin, Daimler AG, Deutsche Post DHL, the energy group OMV, the Stuttgarter Straßenbahnen AG public transportation company, and the Finnish oil company Neste Oil took part in a discussion-oriented event titled “Diesel from renewable resources — A step toward zero-emission transportation?”. At the event, the companies presented the initial results of their joint pilot test project focusing on fuel from sustainable production.

In Germany there is currently much debate about promoting commercial vehicles that comply with the voluntary EEV (Enhanced Environmentally-friendly Vehicle) emission standard in addition to the Euro 5 emission standard. Subsidies are available for these vehicles in the Netherlands. The particulate-emission limits specified by the EEV standard are around a third lower than those stipulated by the already stringent Euro 5 standard. Mercedes Benz EEV trucks will be available from October 2009.
