  • Stuttgart, Jul 14, 2008 - The international driving presentation of the new Actros, the flagship of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, is on tour through the growing transportation markets of Central and Eastern Europe. A convoy of Actros tractor-trailers is setting out from the Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and driving through the Central European nations of Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania to Bulgaria, the tour’s final destination.

  • Stuttgart, Jul 11, 2008 - From October 2008 the standard equipment of the 45 kW/61 bhp and 52 kW/71 bhp petrol-engined smart fortwo models will include micro hybrid drive (mhd) technology with a user-friendly automatic start-stop system. This reduces the NEDC consumption of the two naturally aspirated engines by an average of 8 percent. In city traffic fuel savings of almost 20 percent are even possible. Furthermore, from the autumn of 2008 the smart fortwo cdi will be equipped with a closed diesel particulate filter that almost completely eradicates particulate emissions.

  • Stuttgart/Delhi, Jul 7, 2008 - The Indo-German joint venture Daimler Hero Commercial Vehicles (DHCV), which was founded a few weeks ago by Hero Group and Daimler AG, concluded negotiations concerning its production location this week. The company decided in favour of the city of Chennai on the east coast of Southern India, which is also India's fourth-largest city and the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu.

  • Paris / Wörth am Rhein, Jul 4, 2008 - In future the road maintenance department of the municipal cleaning services in the French capital - Propreté de Paris - will be working with the Mercedes-Benz Unimog. To this end the municipal authority in Paris purchased a total of nine Unimog U 400 with tunnel washing units by the leading manufacturer of mowing and tunnel cleaning equipment, Mulag based in Oppenau/Black Forest, in 2007. In addition the vehicles come with demountable bodies for grit spreaders, snowploughs and snow clearance units by Schmidt Winterdienst- und Kommunaltechnik GmbH in St. Blasien (Black Forest).

  • Munich/Stuttgart, Jul 2, 2008 - The international "Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award in Robotics and Automation 2008" goes to the "Montage 21" project of Mercedes-Benz. Stefan Müller, President of the International Federation of Robotics (IFR) and Professor Bruno Siciliano, President of the Robotics & Automation Society (IEEE-RAS), presented the award to Dr Michael Zürn, Thomas Brandstetter and Dr Dieter Steegmüller from Daimler AG.

  • Stuttgart/Riyadh, Jul 2, 2008 - Mercedes-Benz Buses and Coaches has received a major contract from SAPTCO (Saudi Arabian Public Transport) for 300 Mercedes-Benz Travego coaches. The first 150 coaches will be delivered before the end of this year. The other 150 will be delivered at the beginning of next year.

  • Aksaray, Jun 30, 2008 - In a ceremony at the Headquarters, Mercedes-Benz Türk today celebrated the production milestones of 100,000 trucks and 50,000 buses. The company that commenced operations in 1967 with 73 employees is today Turkey’s largest manufacturer of trucks and buses, employing 4,500 men and women. Mercedes-Benz Türk has dominated the Turkish bus market for more than 40 years and currently has a market share of 61.8 percent for travel coaches and 26.1 percent for city buses. For the past six years, Mercedes-Benz Türk has also been the market leader for trucks over six tons, with a current market share of 30.6 percent.

  • Stuttgart, Jun 11, 2008 - According to the findings of development engineers at Mercedes-Benz following a fleet test conducted with a total of 1,000 Mercedes-Benz Actros trailer in 2005/2006, half of the serious truck accidents could be prevented. For the purposes of the trial, half of the trucks were equipped with the Lane Assistant, proximity control and stability control assistance systems.

The milestone vehicle was one of a batch of five S 416 GT-HD/2 models to be handed over to Varan Turizm at the Setra Customer Centre in Neu-Ulm by the Chairman of Daimler Buses, Harald Landmann.

  • Neu-Ulm, Jun 5, 2008 - The organisers of the “EURO2008” European Football Championships, which are taking place in Austria and Switzerland from June 7 to 29, 2008, have opted to use Setra coaches, a brand of Daimler AG, to transport the teams between venues. On May 26 in the Setra Customer Centre in Neu-Ulm, Holger Suffel, Director of Sales at Daimler Buses, officially handed over a fleet of some 16 coaches from the S 415 GT-HD series to the international “BusTeam2008” consortium.

  • Ulm/Brighton, May 28, 2008 - An S 416 GT-HD belonging to coach operator “Crusader Holidays”, based in Clacton-on-Sea, was voted “Coach of the Year 2008” at this year’s UK Coach Rally in Brighton, England. This is already the third year in a row that a customer of Setra - the Ulm-based bus and coach manufacturer owned by Daimler AG - has received this distinction. In all, this is the 14th award Setra has been able to reap since the market launch of the Ulm-built coaches in the UK 26 years ago.

  • Stuttgart/Singapur, May 16, 2008 - SMRT (Singapore Mass Rapid Transit) has become the first corporation in South-East Asia to use Mercedes-Benz urban buses featuring BlueTec 5 to provide local public transport services. This move marks the first adoption by the Asian market of BlueTec diesel technology, which Daimler has already introduced extremely successfully in Europe, and which offers significant reductions in diesel consumption and exhaust emissions. In ordering 66 Mercedes-Benz city buses which meet the stringent Euro 5 exhaust standard, Singapore's SMRT Corporation is assuming a pioneering role and setting new standards in South-East Asia.

  • Berlin/Stuttgart, May 14, 2008 - – In the occasion of this years European Soccer Championship, Mercedes-Benz CharterWay has laminated ten refrigerated truck trailers with European Soccer Championship motifs. Five of the trailers feature the alpine image from the popular TV commercial “Alpenabenteuer” (Alpine Adventure).   • Gaffney/Stuttgart, May 14, 2008 - The largest order of alternative-fuel and drive-train commercial vehicles to-date was placed with DTNA’s Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) today by UPS. The order, consisting of 200 hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) and 300 compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles, is being manufactured on FCCC’s walk-in van MT45 and MT55 chassis product line.

  • Stuttgart/Speyer, Apr 23, 2008 - In the first days of April, in the port of Rotterdam a crane hoisted the BURAN onto a sixteen-axle low-bed trailer with a Mercedes-Benz Actros SLT 4160 8x6/4 heavy-duty tractor unit, which had previously been placed on a pontoon barge. The first thing onlookers saw when the barge carrying the BURAN came around a bend in the Rhine, was the leaf-green Actros heavy tractor unit of the Kübler haulage company. The Russian space shuttle BURAN (= snowstorm) fascinated spectators all along the Rhine valley, past Cologne, past the famed Loreley rocks and all the way to Speyer, the home of the Technik-Museum.
