World Premiere at Mercedes-Benz: Travego with Active Brake Assist

Jul 31, 2008
  • Active Brake Assist available exclusively worldwide for commercial vehicles from Daimler
  • Automatic emergency braking when a collision is imminent
  • Installation of assistance systems reduces insurance costs
  • Front Collision Guard and PowerShift improve Travego’s safety and fuel economy
The new-generation Mercedes-Benz Travego travel coach will feature a world premiere when it’s launched, as it’s the first coach ever to be equipped with the multiple award-winning Active Brake Assist system. Following a series of intensifying warning signals, the active safety system for emergency braking assistance automatically initiates a full application of the brakes should the driver fail to react to the imminent danger of a rear-end collision with a vehicle driving in front.
Active Brake Assist in the new Mercedes-Benz Travego not only represents an investment in greater safety; it also helps cut operating costs, as coaches equipped with the system receive a five percent discount on the liability insurance and comprehensive collision insurance policies offered by Mercedes-Benz Bank AG as part of the Mercedes-Benz bus and coach insurance program. A five percent discount is also offered for coaches equipped with Lane Assistant and proximity cruise control. If all three of these assistance systems are installed in the vehicle, the discount amounts to ten percent. The system has successfully demonstrated its efficiency in heavy-duty Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks, in which it has clocked up more than 350 million kilometers in normal customer operations.
The Travego is also equipped with the new Mercedes PowerShift eight-speed transmission, which significantly reduces fuel consumption and helps cut costs. It also lowers CO2 emissions, thereby helping to protect the environment. The new-generation Travego features another passive safety innovation as well: the Front Collision Guard (FCG) - a unique system that protects the driver and tour guide in the event of a frontal collision.
The new-generation Mercedes-Benz Travego will be presented to the general public in Hall 14/15 at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show from September 25 to October 2, 2008.
