- World best-seller with more than 40,000 units sold

- The new Citaro, since 2011
- Citaro – high-tech, low-floor bus
It is on the road in practically every major European city and carries passengers in Mexico, Japan, Singapore and Abu Dhabi. The Mercedes-Benz Citaro has revolutionised the world of low-floor, regular-service buses and forged a unique path. With more than 40,000 of this world best-seller built to date, the Citaro is the top-selling Mercedes-Benz bus of all time – and it is now more up-to-date than ever.
New engine variant for the Citaro G; new electronics structure
The Citaro's high level of attractiveness is now augmented by appealing additions to the latest model range. For example, the Citaro G articulated bus is now optionally available with the compact, horizontally installed OM 936 h six-cylinder in-line engine. The powerplant produces 260 kW (354 hp) from its 7.7-litre displacement while reaching a maximum torque of 1400 Nm.
The new engine version is one example from the Citaro high-tech, low-floor bus: the Power Boost System (PBS) accelerates torque build-up at lower engine speeds by briefly injecting compressed air into the intake tract. Peak torque is thus available much earlier than would otherwise be the case. Although the action takes no longer than about a second, the compact powerplant exhibits the pulling-away characteristics of an engine with a much bigger displacement.
A key advantage of this new drive combination is that, due to the low engine weight and small installation space, the capacity of the Citaro G with the new engine variant is increased by up to eight passengers.
The Citaro G also benefits from the new and improved anti-jackknifing system ATC (Articulation Turntable Controller). The show vehicle is already equipped with a new generation of electronics. This is evident from the new, now even larger and more informative colour display in the instrument panel, as well as from the new control panel for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
The new Citaro, since 2011
The completely new Citaro was launched in 2011, after more than 32,000 units of its predecessor had rolled off the production lines. Since then the vehicle has further capitalised on the strengths of the best-seller among urban regular-service buses and is approaching the next milestone of 10,000 units.
The range of variants for the Citaro is impressive: as a low-floor, regular-service bus for urban and rural transport, as a solo vehicle in various lengths and as an articulated bus. With various door configurations and with a vertically or horizontally installed engine. As a low-entry model, the Citaro LE combines the passenger-friendly advantages of a low-floor bus with the economy of a raised-floor vehicle.
2012: the world's first urban bus to comply with the Euro VI emissions standard
In 2012 the Citaro became the world's first series-production urban bus to comply with the Euro VI emissions standard. Externally the Citaro Euro VI is recognisable by a new rear module. This conceals a new family of six-cylinder in-line engines with displacements of 7.7 and 10.7 l. These impress with their agile response, formidable power delivery and high refinement. With the revs dropped further, the Citaro Euro VI operates even more economically, quietly and with a subjectively pleasant noise level.
New brand claim for the Mercedes-Benz Bus and Coach unit
As the undisputed no. 1 in its segment, the Citaro perfectly embodies the new brand claim for the Mercedes-Benz Bus and Coach unit: "The Standard for Buses.". The claim expresses both the brand's ambition to lead and its promise to deliver.
