They operate on long-distance and high-speed bus routes or take passengers to their destination in an exclusive bistro atmosphere. Setra S 431 DT double-decker buses can be used for every application. "Stewa Touristik GmbH" has added three more Setra TopClass 400 vehicles to Germany's largest fleet of bistro buses. The three buses, including the 60th new Setra to be acquired by the bus operator from Kleinostheim in Germany's Lower Franconia region, are also Stewa's first double-decker buses to be powered by Euro VI engines.
The Setra TopClass 400 buses feature a cosy bistro area on the lower deck that can cater for a total of 16 passengers in "Setra Voyage" all-leather coach seats at four club tables. The upper deck offers comfortable accommodation for 56 passengers. With more than 180 employees, Stewa Touristik is one of the leading coach tour operators in the Rhine-Main area and now has more than 20 Setra double-decker buses currently in service across Europe.
S 431 DT in service on Darmstadt high-speed bus route
Passengers on Darmstadt's "AirLiner" high-speed bus service can now travel to Frankfurt Airport aboard three new Setra double-decker buses. Having been converted for daily regular-service use, the S 431 DT buses of Darmstadt-based "HEAG mobiBus" offer 75 comfortable seats with plenty of legroom as well as space for 17 standing passengers. Eight seats on the lower deck are arranged around small club tables with space for books, newspapers or laptops. LED reading lamps provide pleasant lighting at every seat, while 230-volt power sockets allow passengers to recharge their electronic devices while on the road. Sufficient stowage space for bags and cases is available in the luggage compartments as well as on a large luggage rack on the lower deck.
A video camera enables passengers on the upper deck to keep a constant eye on their stowed luggage. In addition, folding entrance ramps together with a wheelchair bay afford passengers with restricted mobility easy access to the three new AirLiner buses. Matthias Kalbfuss, managing director of HEAG mobilo, is certain: "The new Setra double-decker buses not only bring contemporary and efficient public transport to the region, they also make an impact beyond the service they provide."
Dirr Reisen takes delivery of three double-decker buses for use on regular long-distance routes
There are 79 seats on each of the three new double-decker buses that were handed over to "Dirr Reisen GmbH" at the Setra Customer Centre in Neu-Ulm. The S 431 DT vehicles will be used in future on long-distance routes operated by Munich-based Flixbus GmbH, which has been cooperating with the company from Jettingen-Scheppach in Bavaria since spring 2014. For managing director Reimund Dirr, this represents a major step into the future: "The three new double-decker buses represent the biggest capital investment in the history of our company. Yet it is important for us to be able to offer our passengers the highest levels of comfort together with the greatest possible safety."
The classified 4-star buses offer passengers such facilities as free WiFi access for their computers and smartphones. A partner of Setra since 1997, Dirr Reisen now has more than 25 buses in service.
Swedish bus operator Bergkvarabuss orders S 431 DT with higher roof
Bergkvarabuss, Sweden's largest private bus operator, is using a very special double-decker bus on new long-distance routes. With the conditions of the tender calling for a minimum standing height of 1.85 m, the developers at EvoBus carried out detailed calculations of the body strength before adding 200 mm to the centre of the roof above the middle entrance. The TopClass 400 bus of the customer from Kalmar now boasts a total height of 4.20 m, which does not require an exemption in the Scandinavian country. Externally, the subtle increase in the height of the glass roof is barely noticeable owing to laterally arranged design elements.
To guarantee a smooth flow of passengers on long-distance routes, the front staircase to the upper deck was moved to the right-hand side behind entrance door 1. The 1150 mm-wide rear entrance is equipped with a fold-out ramp to allow wheelchairs and prams or pushchairs convenient access to the interior of the vehicle. Passengers wishing to use a computer or other electronic device while on board will find a 230-volt power socket at each double seat on the luxury bus, which has a total capacity of 75 seats.
S 431 DT double-decker buses with Euro VI engines
The Setra TopClass 400 was superseded in 2014 by the TopClass 500. However, S 431 DT double-decker buses with Euro VI engines of the "Blue Efficiency Power" generation continue to be part of the current product range. These Setra TopClass 400 buses boast over 40 new features in comparison to their Euro V predecessors. These include a revised cockpit with a new multifunction steering wheel, two staircases as standard and a luggage compartment door that is 23 centimetres wider.
