The Carinthian government’s Competence Centre 9 is responsible for building and maintaining Carinthia’s entire network of state roads, bridges and cycle paths, including buildings and structures connected to the network. It has now put a Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 500 with all-wheel steering, complete snow blower-cutters and two high-performance mowers into operation. This combination is designed to ensure that the constant maintenance work on the roads in the challenging high mountain region can be carried out reliably throughout the entire year.

The Migros Geneva Cooperative has its own distribution centre in La Praille with four sidings. From here, it supplies 34 sales outlets in Switzerland and a further three outlets near the border in France. Before a van or truck can head off to a sales outlet, however, a Unimog is needed. The new Unimog U400, like its Unimog 1400 predecessor, takes care of all the shunting duties between the SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) and the cooperative's own railway lines.

According to an expert report by the German Agricultural Society (DLG) in Groß-Umstadt, Hessia, the Mercedes-Benz Unimog proves to be a particularly economical vehicle for e.g. transport tasks and mowing operations. During a transport assignment on level ground, a Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 400 with a trailer load of 21 t consumed only 18.89 litres of fuel per hour, compared to a mean consumption for tractors of 32.07 litres per hour.
