Since the beginning of the year, SSB and moovel Group GmbH have been providing new ways in which to sell public transportation tickets with the SSB BestPreis app. After the first test with 1,000 customers proved successful, the SSB BestPreis app has now been made available to 20,000 users. Customers who are not able to accurately predict their use of local public transportation will benefit most from the offer. The app totals the price for all single tickets bought by the user during the course of a month and calculates the cheapest possible combination of those tickets. The SSB BestPreis user can begin collecting tickets on any day of the month and will be invoiced exactly one month later.
“We are delighted with the great start of the SSB BestPreis app. We had to increase the trial quota from 500 to 1,000 customers a mere three days after the launch of the app in January as a result of the high demand,” explains Stefanie Haaks, Commercial Director of SSB. “With this app, we are providing occasional users of public transportation in particular with an offer that negates the need to have any knowledge of fares. Therefore, any restrains towards using public transport will be reduced and we hope that this app will help to increase the number of people using public transportation.”& nbsp;
New functions have been added to the app since the start of January, for example an overview of the journeys the users have already made. In addition, users can now access the BestPreis Balance View, which allows them to view their current optimally calculated balance.
“The first few weeks have already shown that users really like the basic idea of the SSB BestPreis app. All the more reason for us to be excited that a significantly greater number of customers are now able to use this attractive app,” comments Daniela Gerd tom Markotten, CEO of moovel Group GmbH.
Travel with public transportation at the best price available
The service provided by the SSB BestPreis app should make using public transportation in Stuttgart more attractive and as easy as possible, especially for customers who cannot predict their short- or long-term usage. Customers do not need to have any knowledge of the VVS fares, as the SSB BestPreis app automatically calculates the best fare. The app totals the price for all journeys made by the user during the course of a month and calculates the best possible price. The only action that passengers have to take is to register in the app, which is available free of charge for iOS and Android. First, individual travel authorizations for the VVS area are purchased via the app. At the end of the invoicing period, the algorithm calculates an optimal combination of short-trip, single, day, and monthly tickets, and the user is only charged the cheapest option. Hence, users no longer have to search for the cheapest ticket option themselves. For example, a passenger buys four single tickets for zone 10 on one day for a total price of 9.48 euros. The algorithm of the BestPreis app recognizes a cheaper option with an UmweltTagesTicket day ticket for 4.50 euros. The user thus saves 4.98 euros by using the SSB BestPreis app.
Partnership between SSB and moovel Group GmbH
SSB and the moovel Group are working together to provide this innovative offer. The app also provides timetable information, a booking functionality, invoicing and customer route planning. SSB integrates its fare information into the project, uses its algorithm to calculate the best respective price for the SSB BestPreis user and provides the corresponding tickets. moovel supplies the technological foundation for the app. Under the name moovel transit, the moovel Group offers white-label solutions for transit authorities and agencies, allowing them to sell mobile tickets using their own name and corporate image. Users of the SSB BestPreis app are thus customers of both SSB and moovel.
