Private car sharing by app goes live: Launch of smart "ready to share"

Following successful beta testing in Stuttgart, Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne/Bonn, Munich and Frankfurt, smart is now officially launching private car sharing by app. The "ready to" package, which is required as hardware for the service, is now optionally available for the smart fortwo and smart forfour in combination with combustion engine and electric drive in Germany, Italy and France. The first smart vehicles to be fitted with this equipment will reach showrooms in June. smart has drawn on the feedback from the community in its further development of smart "ready to" and will continue to do so for future updates.

smart "ready to share" makes private car sharing as simple, safe and straightforward as using car2go. Authorised users can open friends' smart vehicles in a matter of seconds, using their smartphone. smart "ready to share" is smartphone-based and uses the vehicle's "keyless entry" function. The connectivity box integrated in the dashboard communicates for this purpose with the smart "ready to" app, which is also accessible via a link from the new smart EQ control app.

The "ready to" package is available in conjunction with the Cool & Media package for 199 euros[1] and in conjunction with the Cool & Audio package for 299 euros4.

Simple, safe and straightforward usage via an app

The smart owner can enter the times when the vehicle will be available and invite friends and colleagues to use it. The friends and colleagues will be sent an email, allowing them to register and create an account. The people defined by the smart driver can then book the vehicle via the app and open it with their smartphone. The app acts as a digital vehicle log, making car sharing straightforward, transparent and safe for all users.

The smart owner can also activate a "Home zone", specifying where the vehicle should be returned to.

As a final step, the owner must ensure that a vehicle key is left inside the smart so that the activated users can drive it. At the end of the trip, the vehicle is locked via the app and the booking is ended. The vehicle is then released again for all other users.

In addition to friends and members of the family, smart "ready to share" is also aimed at small businesses, freelancers and offices. Vehicle owners can share not only the vehicle, but also the attendant costs with other users. smart is currently developing various price models to this end. Billing is simple and straightforward, via the smart "ready to" app.

smart has drawn on the feedback from the community in its further development of smart "ready to". Accordingly, it has responded to the wish for the necessary hardware to be integrated inconspicuously into the vehicle, for example.

smart "ready to": innovative urban mobility services

For six years now, smart has been complementing its mobility products with customer-friendly services. To promote the swift development and implementation of creative projects in the field of urban mobility, smart established the smart lab as the brand's think tank in 2016. smart "ready to" stands for a host of services designed to make life in the city easier.

In addition to the smart "ready to share" private car sharing function, this new smart service strategy already includes the "ready to rent" hire concept, the smart "ready to drop" and smart "ready to drop+" in-car delivery services, and the smart "ready to park+" parking space service.

Further innovative services are being developed in the smart lab. With "over the air" updates, they will be gradually made available to smart drivers with the "ready to" package.
