Drive batteries based on lithium-ion technology

Foundation year: 2009
Number of employees: approx 1,500

  • Since 2012 Accumotive, a wholly owned Mercedes-Benz AG subsidiary has produced drive batteries for plug-in hybrid, hybrid and electric vehicles for Mercedes-Benz and smart, as well as commercial vehicles at its Kamenz location.
  • The Kamenz site comprises a total of around 80,000 sq.m with two battery factories and is an important part of Mercedes-Benz Cars global battery production network, which has locations on three continents.
  • The second battery factory, which began operations in 2018, relies on state-of-the-art systems and uses a wide range of Industry 4.0 technologies. It is also designed to be a CO2-neutral factory: a cogeneration plant and a photovoltaic system combined with geothermal energy to supply the production plants with energy.
  • The second factory manufactures, among other things, drive batteries for electric Mercedes-EQ models.
  • Since the start of production at Accumotive, more than a million batteries based on lithium-ion technology for electric, plug-in hybrid vehicles and 48-volt systems have been produced at the Kamenz site.
