S 417: the TopClass 400 for the North American market
The S 417 was developed on the basis of the European concept for the TopClass 400. The width of 102 inches (approx. 2.60 m) and length of 45 feet (approx. 13.7 m) were adapted to suit the requirements of the market. Other typical features include a single entry door at the front, marker lights, a divided windscreen and a 120 mm extension to the rear bumper. In all other respects the US version corresponds to the design of the European TopClass 400. The spacious and comfortable interior impresses with a level floor and the absence of platforms, a toilet in the rear and in some cases a generously equipped kitchen area in the rear. The coach is powered by a Detroit Diesel Series 60 DDEC engine, which is combined with either an Allison WTB 500 automatic transmission or the ZF-AS tronic automated 12-speed transmission.
