Thomas Built Buses, DTNA’s school bus manufacturer, now offers all of its school buses with BlueTec. DTNA introduced the SCR exhaust emission control technology known as BlueTec because it has proven to be the most effective solution for reducing pollutant emissions. It therefore optimally satisfies the EPA 2010 emissions standard, which took effect in the U.S. at the start of this year. Thomas Built Buses has already sold more than 1,500 BlueTec-equipped school buses. Customers in 44 states and five Canadian provinces have ordered the BlueTec buses.

Stuttgart, Feb 9, 2010 -
From February 2010 the Mitsubishi Fuso Canter comes with EEV (Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicle) compliance as standard and therefore offers even greater environmental compatibility (through a reduction in particulate emissions of some 30 %, for example) than the existing Euro 5 engine range. As all the engine variants comply with the new standard – from the 96-kW (130-hp) version to the 107-kW (145-hp) unit right up to the new 129-kW (175-hp) engine – all vehicles ordered from November 2009 come with it.
Stuttgart, Feb 5, 2010 -
EEV (Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicle) is a classification used for engines which comply with an even more stringent exhaust emission standard than Euro 5. The EEV standard reduces particulate emissions by roughly a further one third compared to the already stringent Euro 5 limits. In extending its truck range, Mercedes-Benz will be gradually introducing EEV versions in certain output classes of the Mercedes-Benz Actros, Axor and Atego up to July 2010.

The entire family of engines made by Detroit Diesel Corporation (DDC) has been certified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the U.S. as being in compliance with the EPA 2010 emissions standard, which took effect at the start of this year. EPA 2010 is the world’s most stringent emissions standard. This certification cleared the way for the market launch of the DDC engines with SCR (selective catalytic reduction) technology — after years of research and 28 million miles of successful testing.

Graz, Austria, Dec 9, 2009 -
Vienna Technical University and the Graz Energy Agency have teamed up with Mercedes-Benz Austria, Magna Steyr, and the shipping company Frikus to find out how much a natural gas-driven Economic NGT reduces noise and emissions of CO2 and pollutants compared to a conventional diesel-powered truck. To determine this, an all-new Econic NGT 1828 semi-truck is being tested in plant supply operations at Magna Steyr. Daimler provided the test vehicle for this pioneering project, which is being supported by various government authorities, including the Austrian Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology, the State of Styria, and the Environmental Agency of the City of Graz.

In Germany there is currently much debate about promoting commercial vehicles that comply with the voluntary EEV (Enhanced Environmentally-friendly Vehicle) emission standard in addition to the Euro 5 emission standard. Subsidies are available for these vehicles in the Netherlands. The particulate-emission limits specified by the EEV standard are around a third lower than those stipulated by the already stringent Euro 5 standard. Mercedes Benz EEV trucks will be available from October 2009.

Daimler has been offering its highly-efficient BlueTec diesel technology for com-mercial vehicles since early 2005 – and with great success. Since then, around 160,000 BlueTec commercial vehicles have taken to the streets of Europe, includ-ing Mercedes-Benz heavy trucks and Vario vans, as well as Mercedes-Benz and Setra buses. Over 90 percent of these vehicles already fulfill the Euro5 emissions standard not due for introduction until autumn 2009. So far, these BlueTec vehi-cles have saved their operators around 400 million liters of diesel fuel and the envi-ronment 100 million tones of CO2 emissions.

As a highly versatile distribution vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz Atego has to deliver its cargo in inner-city areas. It is therefore all the more important that, like its “big brothers” the Axor and Actros, it is now already available with Blue-Tec 5 technology. Compared with today’s Euro 4 emissions standard, this means a further 43% reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx). Thanks to the new Blue-Tec diesel technology, the Atego’s emissions of particulate matter have now also been slashed dramatically.
