Swiss tour operator "Zerzuben Touristik AG" from Visp, in the Valais region, has taken delivery of the first of a total of 15 Setra touring coaches in Neu-Ulm. This major order for four S 431 DT double-decker buses and 11 ComfortClass 500 type S 515 HD touring coaches represents the first large-scale order of 2014 for Setra.
Setra market leader in Switzerland for decades
According to Till Oberwörder, Head of Marketing, Sales and After-Sales at Daimler Buses: "We are delighted to have received this large-scale order from Zerzuben, involving an investment of 7 million euros, and that they have chosen to put their confidence in our products. I am particularly proud of the fact that, over decades now, Setra has been able to develop a tradition as the market leader in touring coaches over eight tonnes."
Kurt Zerzuben, senior partner of the company, is especially enthusiastic about the new Setra 500 series: "For me, these vehicles are the absolute epitome of premium products. They will help us to improve further the already proven high standard of the tours that we organise. Our customers appreciate the investment that we make in state-of-the-art, safe and eco-friendly vehicles, which is why we plan to replace our fleet every four years in future."
The Swiss company used the opportunity presented by the handover of the first vehicles in Neu-Ulm to familiarise its more than 30 drivers with Setra. An informational event, plant tour and test drives on the former air base at Leipheim rounded off the visitors' programme.
ComfortClass 500 with numerous assistance systems
The new Setra ComfortClass 500 touring coaches, equipped to four-star standard, feature seat spacing of 83 cm and offer 44 or 48 seats in the S 515 HD and three-axle S 516 HD respectively. The coaches are powered by Euro VI six-cylinder in-line OM 470 engines producing 315 kW/428 hp, in conjunction with the automated eight-speed GO 250-8 PowerShift manual transmission. Both models are equipped with an extensive array of assistance systems. These include the Electronic Stability Program (ESP), the Front Collision Guard (FCG) as an additional passive safety element, Active Brake Assist (ABA), the Lane Assistant (SPA), adaptive cruise control (ART) and Attention Assist (ATAS).
Zerzuben Touristik AG was established by Kurt Zerzuben's parents Alex and Marie Zerzuben in 1966 and the first bus to be acquired by the company in that start-up year was a Setra S 6. It was followed soon afterwards, in 1967, by a Setra S 7. The managing director of the company these days is Marco Zerzuben, the grandson of the company's founder, who runs the company together with his younger brother Fabio Zerzuben and with the experienced advice of his father in the background. After holding sole responsibility for 40 years, the latter relinquished control of the business to his sons in 2005.
