Daimler supports COP 15 UN climate conference in Copenhagen
Daimler AG has been selected to support the 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 15) with a fleet of highly efficient and environment-friendly passenger cars, vans and buses. To meet the transportation requirements of the participants at the conference - due to take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 7th to 18th December 2009 - the company is providing a total of 43 vehicles featuring the widest variety of drive systems, from internal combustion engines and hybrid drives, right through to fuel cells.
According to Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars: "Daimler has set itself the goal of taking on a pioneering role when it comes to particularly environment-friendly vehicles - especially commercial vehicles and passenger cars. As such we also consider it a logical step for us to make an appropriate contribution to the world's most important conference on the topic of climate protection."
In addition to the Mercedes-Benz S 400 HYBRID, the world's first series hybrid using lithium-ion technology, and clean Mercedes-Benz E-Class BlueTEC diesels, other vehicles making an appearance in Copenhagen will include Citaro buses and Mercedes-Benz B-Class models featuring fuel cell drives as well as Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans with natural gas drives, among others.
Daimler's strategy for sustainable mobility
Daimler AG's strategy - its "roadmap to sustainable mobility" - brings together an entire range of activities designed to save resources and minimise emissions. These include the optimization of vehicles by means of ultramodern combustion engines, further increases in efficiency through needs-oriented hybridization and zero-emission driving with fuel-cell and battery-powered vehicles.
To meet the diverse requirements of mobility of the future, Daimler offers intelligent modular drive technologies which can be implemented individually or in combination, depending on the vehicle class, usage profile and customer requirements. In addition, Daimler is committed to using clean and alternative fuels such as "SunDiesel", a second-generation biofuel which is derived from biogenic residual matter and which therefore does not compete with food and animal feed production.
