Mercedes-Benz Trucks: Trucks you can trust
- Mercedes-Benz Trucks expects 2008 to be another record-breaking year, is well-prepared for decline in the commercial vehicle business next year
- Brand pledge “Trucks you can trust” creates confidence
- Customer satisfaction comes first
Stuttgart – Mercedes-Benz Trucks is headed toward posting another sales record. The company achieved its previous all-time high last year, when it sold 105,000 trucks of over six tons in Europe. The company expects sales next year to return to normal levels as last seen in 2005 and 2006.
The full force of the current financial crisis is now making itself felt in Western Europe’s commercial vehicle industry, which has already been affected by declining demand and structural changes. The current prospects for the triad markets are very modest at best: Western Europe has seen the end of its boom and faces a sustained cyclical downturn; following a steep decline, the hoped-for rebound in the U.S. continues to be delayed; and demand in Japan remains weak.
The entire capital goods industry expects to suffer a substantial downturn next year. “Although we cannot yet say for sure which scenarios will emerge, the Global Excellence Program, the ‘manage the cycle’ initiatives, and innovative and reliable products provide us with the right means and mechanisms to counteract the effects of a deep recession,” says Andreas Renschler, Daimler Board of Management Member responsible for Daimler Trucks.
According to Renschler, perseverance, leadership, and determination are required to address the current challenges. This is expressed, for example, in the rapid implementation of personnel measures for increased flexibility at German commercial vehicle plants as well as in the repositioning of Daimler Trucks North America. “The basis of all of our strategies is the optimal and efficient development of products that win the confidence of our customers - that’s the main thing,” Renschler added.
Brand pledge “Trucks you can trust” creates confidence
The pledge of “Trucks you can trust” is derived from the high quality synonymous with Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles and is a source of motivation for the more than 40,000 people employed by the Mercedes-Benz Trucks organization worldwide. The accuracy of the claim is demonstrated day after day by the reliability and quality of the approximately 600,000 Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks on the road in more than 100 countries around the world. The pledge is also kept by the many other types of Mercedes-Benz trucks on the road, including the Atego and the Axor, all which continue to uphold the good reputation earned by legendary Mercedes-Benz vehicles during more than 110 years of truck history.
The “Trucks you can trust” pledge is underscored by market research results in Europe, which show, for example, that of all truck models in its competitive field, the Mercedes-Benz Actros is the least likely to break down on the road. Internal assessments also confirm customer statements that Mercedes-Benz trucks also are frontrunners when it comes to vehicle availability. The number of quality complaints has been reduced by more than half since the mid-1990s, and the figure is now better than that for the SK trucks, which are renowned for their high quality.
Customer satisfaction comes first
Quality and reliability are top priorities at Mercedes-Benz Trucks. In an unparalleled reliability campaign, Mercedes-Benz Trucks management is evaluating complaints regarding vehicle technology, including details such as door check straps and swing steps of construction vehicles. In addition, the management is initiating technical measures and tracking their long-term effectiveness. The aim is to ensure that customers will continue to have maximum availability and use of their vehicles in the future. “ Trucks you can trust” serves as the guiding principle in all the company’s units, from development and production to sales and workshop service.
“The brand pledge ‘Trucks you can trust’ expresses Mercedes-Benz’ uncompromising focus on the quality and reliability of its products and services, and on the fair, cooperative treatment of its customers. That’s because the transportation business depends on having vehicles and business partners that can be trusted in all situations,” says Hubertus Troska, Head of the Mercedes-Benz Trucks business unit at Daimler AG.
