Anyone moving around Stuttgart's city centre, will also see the 56-metre-high railway station tower with the revolving Mercedes-Benz star, along with other well-known landmarks. Since its erection there in 1952, it has represented the car brand steeped in tradition. At the end of March 2021, the star will move temporarily due to the renovation of the Bonatz Building and will make a guest appearance at the Mercedes-Benz Museum. In 2025, the star will return to the renovated tower at Stuttgart's new main station.

Deutsche Bahn is taking the next step in the modernisation of the main station. Over the next few years, the Bonatz Building will receive a stabilising supporting structure and two new, light-flooded levels. The exterior of the listed building, which puts its stamp on the cityscape, will be preserved. The Mercedes star with its diameter of five metres will be removed at the end of March and will make a guest appearance in front of the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Bad Cannstatt until the end of the construction period.

"The Mercedes star on the station tower has been a part of Stuttgart for almost seventy years, just like the television tower. We are pleased that this landmark will be preserved even after the modernisation of the Bonatz Building," says Nikolaus Hebding, Head of Station Management.

"Our world-famous brand logo is a unique symbol of our more than 130 years of automotive tradition, courageous pioneering spirit and contemporary mobility. The Mercedes star on the tower of Stuttgart's main railway station is particularly close to our hearts because it represents the brand at the location of our Group headquarters. That's why we are looking forward to seeing it shine on the city again after a renovation phase of the tower in 2025," says Bettina Fetzer, Vice President Marketing at Mercedes-Benz AG.

The new Bonatz Building
The Bonatz Building, the historic reception building of Stuttgart's main railway station, will be completely modernised over the next few years as part of the Stuttgart-Ulm railway project. This also includes the tower as one of Stuttgart's landmarks. The future ground-level entrance to the building from all sides will allow easy access to the tracks of the new platform hall.
