On the road to the Hockenheimring: Formula 1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas visit the Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen location
The employees at the Mercedes-Benz location in Sindelfingen were in for a wonderful surprise: the two drivers of Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, put in a pit stop yesterday and visited the Sindelfingen workforce on their way to the Formula 1 Mercedes-Benz German Grand Prix, which will be held at the Hockenheimring this weekend.
"I am delighted that Lewis and Valtteri have met with the Sindelfingen team in the spirit of 'One Team'. Teamwork, team spirit and motivation are crucial for winning not only on the race track. They are also decisive factors for our success here in Research and Development", said Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development and responsible for Global Mercedes-Benz Cars Procurement.
"One Brand, one Team" - this team motto equally governs the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team at and on the race track as well as the workforce of Mercedes-Benz Cars in production operations and all other areas: #OneTeam #Drivenbyeachother.
"As in Formula 1, the team spirit is a crucial key to success in the global production network of Mercedes-Benz Cars as well. We rely on people who produce top-quality Mercedes-Benz vehicles with flexibility and passion for our customers", said Jörg Burzer, Member of the Divisional Board Mercedes-Benz Cars, Production and Supply Chain Management, "we wish Lewis and Valtteri the best of luck for the race at the Hockenheimring next weekend".
Lewis and Valtteri met with employees in S-Class production among other places, took part in photo sessions, answered questions and signed autographs.
"Just before the holiday period starts for many, the surprise visit of our Formula 1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas is a sincere thank you to the colleagues in the Mercedes-Benz plant at the Sindelfingen location. In the past six months, our team delivered an exemplary team effort with great commitment", said Michael Bauer, Head of Production of the Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen Plant and Location Manager.
The Formula 1 drivers were provided with an insight into the world of Daimler design at the design headquarters in conversation with the team of Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Daimler AG.
During the encounters with the employees, Lewis and Valtteri also talked about purpose – the "what for" of a company and why the team spirit determines the success.
„To me, living the purpose means being innovative, taking risks, and also coming up with bold ideas. Team spirit is the core to that… whilst I’m the one who’s seen crossing the finish line, I am literally being pushed by thousands of people behind me”, said Lewis Hamilton.
„When you live your purpose and are passionate, you will always be one step ahead. And when you manage to motivate the people around you, it creates a massive energy”, " said Valtteri Bottas.
