World première: Mercedes-Benz Vito available with new engines, digital service packages and extended equipment scopes

versatility, flexibility and a well-balanced price-performance ratio make the Mercedes-Benz Vito a truly successful vehicle. By expanding its product range, Mercedes-Benz Vans has now made its best-seller from the mid-size vans segment even better – experience it in person for the first-time ever at the 2019 Bauma fair. Among the highlights of the new equipment scopes are high-torque four-cylinder diesel engines for the Vito Tourer with passenger car approval. In comparison to the previous generation, the OM 654 engine family reduces emissions and consumption values whilst also optimising noise and vibration comfort. In line with the sales release in March 2019, the power units already familiar from the Mercedes-Benz passenger car range will see their first ever usage in a commercial vehicle at Mercedes-Benz Vans.

Furthermore, the Vito is also very much keeping up with the increasing pace of our digital world. Following on from the Sprinter, many of the digital services offered as part of the Mercedes PRO connect ecosystem will also be made available in Vito variants with combustion engines from Summer 2019. A communications module (LTE) with permanently-installed SIM card ensures that the technical pre-requisites for this are already in place. The products from the Mercedes PRO connect connectivity and fleet management solution help increase efficiency, lower operating costs and improve the availability of your vehicles whilst also facilitating communication between the entire fleet. This provides for more effective control of the fleet and also relieves the burden placed on drivers.

The Mercedes-Benz Vito also pulls up to the start line with additional items of equipment for both the Tourer and the Panel Van, including a much broader range of wheels as well as greater personalisation options. Customers will thus soon be able to choose from four additional exterior colours and further 17, 18 and 19-inch light-alloy wheels. On top of that, there are also innovative comfort functions such as Highbeam Assist PLUS, new roller sliding bases for affixing the seats not to mention the Mercedes-Benz emergency call system and Breakdown Management function. Visually, the design of the instrument cluster has also been adjusted.

The changes to the new Mercedes-Benz Vito Tourer will also see the 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission being used for the first time. The especially comfortable and efficient automatic transmission with torque converter replaces the previous 7G-TRONIC and comes as standard with the new diesel engines. The driver can use the DYNAMIC SELECT switch to select the drive programs "Comfort" and "Sport" and thus influence the shifting behaviour. Alternatively, "M" mode allows the driver to shift manually using the DIRECT SELECT steering wheel gearshift paddles. From autumn 2019, a manual transmission will be available. All new engine variants are equipped as standard with rear-wheel drive but can optionally also be ordered with 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive.

Since its market launch in 1995, the Mercedes-Benz Vito is synonymous with versatile mid-size vans. Around 450,000 units of this current third generation have been sold since its introduction in autumn 2014. Target customers are typically from small and medium-sized businesses with fleets of up to five vehicles. More than 70 percent of all Vito vehicles are used in such conditions. The transport requirements which it must fulfil are especially varied, with the logistics of products and materials making up the vast majority thereof. Almost on par with this is its importance as a mobile components warehouse and service vehicle. After that comes its use for plant-internal transport of people and materials.

Mercedes-Benz Citan with new engine generation and sporty Red Design Package

Mercedes-Benz Vans has been offering the Citan since 2012. This small people carrier with compact dimensions and a large load compartment is ideal for the wide range of challenges encountered about town and in leisure time. The main foundations for its success were laid by the combination of high functionality and economy, its extensive safety systems and high ride comfort. This has now been further reinforced thanks to a new engine generation. Since February, the Citan Tourer can be ordered with a high-torque four-cylinder diesel engine with a displacement of 1.5 litres, new six-speed manual transmission and SCR technology. The engine family (OM 608) complies with the current emission class Euro 6d-TEMP and is available in three output categories for the Citan. The new RED Design Package also enhances the dynamic appearance of the small van.

The technical highlights of the OM 608 engine generation are a close-coupled exhaust gas aftertreatment system with AdBlue® technology, an electrically controlled exhaust gas turbocharger with a variable nozzle turbine for optimised response time, and a common rail injection system with an injection pressure of 2000 bar. The OM 608 is 4 kW more powerful than its predecessor (OM 607) and fulfils Euro 6d-TEMP, including the new requirements concerning Real Driving Emissions – RDE. The engine is offered in combination with a new 6-speed manual transmission. This small van boasts impressively comfortable gearshifting and reduced fuel consumption with a wider gear spread.

The Citan boosts its autonomous and attractive look with a new equipment line which has been available since February. The RED Design Package enhances the exterior with highlights in colour and gives the small van a sportier character. The new Package features red decorative stripes beneath the front radiator grille and on the mirror housings, as well as grey sports stripes under the areas around the sliding doors and the driver's and co-driver's doors. There is also a chromed radiator trim and a chrome trim strip on the tailgate. The package is available both for the Citan Tourer and for the Citan Panel Van.

The interior is also showcased with colour highlights as part of the RED Design Package. There are two styling packages to choose from here. The Colour Interior Design Package includes red trim rings on the ventilation rings and speakers as well as red topstitching on the front seats and on all head restraints. The second styling package, the Chrome Interior, features numerous chrome elements in the interior of the Citan, as per the red highlights.

Like every Mercedes-Benz the Citan is extensively equipped with safety systems. These include the Electronic Stability Program ADAPTIVE ESP®, which is standard for all variants and takes into account the vehicle's load status, as well as Brake Assist. In addition, assistance systems such as the light and rain sensor, tyre pressure monitoring and a reversing camera with display in the rear-view mirror which shows the direct surroundings of the rear of the vehicle, are available as options.

The new Sprinter: intelligent, interactive and innovative

Fascinating design, security features at a very high level, outstanding cost-effectiveness, customer and industry-oriented detail solutions and a new networking solution: the third generation of the Sprinter sets the rules in the large vans segment for vehicles between 3.5 t and 5.5 t permissible gross vehicle weight.

The construction industry benefits from the typical characteristics of the Sprinter: it is robust and has a long service life, it is practical and comfortable, powerful and economical. In addition, with its numerous versions, it presents itself as a tailor-made van: it can be ordered with a large number of variants and optional equipment – be that as a panel van, crewbus, platform truck, chassis cab or a crewcab. Among the equipment are trailer couplings with towing capacities up to 3.5 t, jaw-type trailer couplings, all-season or M+S tyres, various seating arrangements for the passenger compartment of the crewbus and much more besides. With numerous stowage compartments in the cockpit and options such as auxiliary heating or the backrest with table function, the van isn't just perfect for work but also for taking a break.

For the first time, the new Sprinter covers all three drive system variants – front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive – and can thus be optimally adapted to the respective transport tasks and driving profile. The Sprinter also masters highly challenging routes, such as temporary construction-site roads.

The Sprinter 4x4 is also ideally equipped for more demanding exterior conditions. There is full integration into the adaptive stability program ESP, and ASR can be deactivated in defined handling situations, for example to increase traction on gravel roads, plus the higher body makes off-road driving easier.

With the market launch of the new Sprinter in June 2018 came the introduction of Mercedes PRO, a networking solution for logistics and transport requirements. As a beneficial feature for fleets, Mercedes PRO optimises communication between fleet managers, vehicles and drivers. The networking solution enables orders to be controlled online and vehicle information such as location, tank fill level or maintenance intervals to be queried almost in real time. Its advantages range from reduced downtimes resulting from pre-emptive management of maintenance and repairs, right up to clearly prepared data for business analyses. Fleets ranging from those of small businesses to major customer fleets benefit from the web-based service.

Mercedes-Benz X-Class: robust pickup for a wide range of uses in the building industry

During the day on the construction site and at weekends for leisure activities – the Mercedes-Benz pickup is not just a commercial vehicle but also a comfortable vehicle for everyday use. The X-Class combines the typical characteristics of a pickup with the classic strengths of a Mercedes. It is robust, resilient and unfazed by off-road terrain. At the same time, with its handling comfort, driving dynamics, aesthetics, personalisation possibilities, safety features and networking, it offers passenger car qualities typical of the brand.

Its large track width (1632 mm at the front and 1625 mm at the rear), long wheelbase (3150 mm) and sophisticated comfort suspension with comfortable spring and damper settings ensure exceptional on-road performance with outstanding ride stability and higher cornering speeds. It was designed to achieve a high level of driving dynamics and comfort in on-road use and at the same time offer ideal off-road mobility in conjunction with four-wheel drive. The suspension consists of a double wishbone front axle, a multi-link rear axle with a rigid axle section and coil springs on both axles, all of which makes it ideal for transporting heavy loads. This combination provides excellent long-distance comfort and impressive ride dynamics. A further plus for long journeys is the high level of acoustic and vibration comfort.

The robust ladder-type frame provides the basis for the heaviest loads and toughest off-road assignments. Its closed profiled sections make it particularly stable and torsionally rigid. What's more, the rigid rear axle with its high axle twist capability improves traction in off-road conditions. Thanks to all-wheel drive, standard-fit low-range reduction gear and centre differential lock as well as optional rear-axle limited-slip differential, the X-Class masters difficult terrain with ease. For example, it easily climbs gradients of up to 45 degrees, fords water courses up to 60 centimetres deep and can master lateral inclines of almost 50 degrees. The X-Class also has a payload of up to 1.1 t and a towing capacity of up to 3.5 t. The width of the loading bed is designed in such a way that a Euro pallet can also be loaded transversely between the wheel housings.

Three equipment variants are available for the different customer requirements: the basic version PURE for classic, robust use; PROGRESSIVE for higher demands on quality and comfort; and POWER as a high-end version. Numerous items of optional equipment as well as a comprehensive accessories program are available for further individualisation. Depending on preference, the design, functionality or off-road capabilities can be further adapted to suit transport requirements even more closely.

The X-Class has a comprehensive range of comfort and safety features, exceptional for its segment, such as seven airbags for passive safety, and driver assistance systems such as Active Brake Assist, trailer stability program or a 360° Camera (optional) for active safety.

Conversion World: digital platform for body and conversion solutions

Collaboration with body and conversion partners is of particular importance to Mercedes-Benz Vans and is one of its success factors in the van industry. At the IAA for Commercial Vehicles in 2018, the Vans division presented the so-called "Conversion World" for the first time ( A digital platform on which end customers have the opportunity to search for and compare body and conversion solutions before contacting suppliers directly. Categorised into eight sectors and accessible in 13 languages, the website now offers more than 150 products as well as the possibility to contact certified bodybuilders. Among the products on offer are low-level platforms for Sprinters, shelving installation for the Vito or refrigeration equipment for the Citan urban delivery van.

Bodybuilders in 35 countries already have the opportunity to achieve Mercedes-Benz VanPartner status via an evaluation system. An evaluation is made using a catalogue of specifications pertaining to sales, service, quality and technology. As soon as the bodybuilder has received this distinction, the company can communicate the good news actively and can make use of the specifically developed label to present itself as a partner of Mercedes-Benz Vans and, for example, submit body and conversion solutions for Conversion World.
