Mercedes-Benz picking up the pace with regard to electrification: By 2022, the entire Mercedes product range is set to be electrified. There will be electric alternatives in every segment from smart to SUV, with well in excess of 130 variants in total, ranging from 48-volt on-board electrical system with EQ Boost to plug-in-hybrids to all-electric vehicles with battery or fuel cell. Unit sales of battery-electric vehicles are set to increase to 15-25 percent of total unit sales by 2025, depending on individual customer preferences and the development of the public infrastructure..
Third-generation plug-in hybrids can help improve air quality in towns and cities: With an all-electric range of around 50 km and an electric motor output of 90 kW, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, E-Class and S-Class Saloon and/or Estate models can be locally emission-free in any inner city.
Hybrid traction head in torque-converter transmission: more powerful, more compact, many variants The 9-speed 9G-TRONIC hybrid transmission allows a cross-series, scalable hybrid concept with a system torque of up to 700 Nm and various combustion engines in all Mercedes-Benz models with rear-wheel drive – diesel or petrol models, saloons or estates.
Tremendous towing ability: Mercedes-Benz plug-in hybrid models combine the option of battery-electric motoring with a maximum towing capacity of 2100 kg (E-Class; C-Class 1800 kg)
Plug-in offers new comfort functions: Pre-entry climate control in the interior before setting off thanks to electrification of heating and cooling, controlled by timer or smartphone app, available for all vehicles with plug-in high-voltage battery.
GLC F-CELL goes into series production: A vehicle with long-distance capability that is fully electric and can refuel with hydrogen and electricity – a hybrid that operates with zero CO2 emissions.
The fuel-cell system: made to measure
The fuel-cell system in the GLC F-CELL is an all-new development. It is around 30 percent more compact than before, can for the first time be housed entirely in the engine compartment, and is installed on the familiar mounting points like a conventional engine. The overall drive system offers around 40 percent more output than its predecessor.
ECO Assist allows intelligent operating strategy in all vehicles with electric motor:
The inclusion of all driving assistance data ensures anticipatory driving with the best possible employment of the on-board energy supplies and optimum use of the electric drive, adapted to the route and traffic situation thanks to selective 'gliding' mode, recuperation, thermal management, and assistance for the combustion engine.
New Wallboxes with an output of up to 22 kW: For private garages and the staff or customer car park, for one or two vehicles, with and without splitting of the electricity costs: Mercedes‑Benz and smart have better alternatives than the power socket, whatever the charging needs.
EQC coming in 2019: The first purely battery-electric vehicle from Mercedes-Benz's EQ brand is the precursor to a full range of EQ models.
smart focussing on all-electric drive: All new smart cars sold in the USA, Canada and Norway since 2017 have electric drive. This will also be the case Europe-wide by 2020, with the rest of the world set to follow soon afterwards.
Holistic approach for electric mobility: From the production of the batteries in its own factories to the development of the infrastructure with charging stations and web-based services for the users, Daimler tackles every aspect of powertrain electrification.
Sustainability is the clincher: Despite requiring more energy during production, the Mercedes-Benz plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles already fare far better than their conventionally powered counterparts in the life cycle assessment (LCA) when it comes to CO2 emissions. But even more will be possible in future, and there will also be a further reduction in the resources used in production.
Even more charging: Daimler's commercial-vehicle division is also steering a course towards electrification.
