Tailor-made charging solutions: New fast charger available from May

The new optional 22 kW on-board charger with fast charging function permits three-phase charging at public charging stations and at a wallbox. It enables the high-voltage battery to be charged from 10 to 80 percent in under 40 minutes. It will be available from May and will cost 840 euros[1].

All smart vehicles with electric drive come with a 4.6 kW on-board charger as standard. This provides for fast recharging of a drained battery – in less than 3.5 hours at a wallbox, in under six hours at a domestic wall socket (10-80 percent in each case). The "smart control" app enables convenient remote monitoring of the charging process and remote control of functions such as intelligent charging.

From May 2018, a particularly powerful 22 kW fast charger will be available as an option in Europe. This makes it possible for the smart fortwo (combined power consumption of 22 kW on-board charger with fast charging function: 13.5 – 12.9 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 0 g/km), smart fortwo cabrio (combined power consumption: 13.5 – 13.0 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 0 g/km) and smart forfour (combined power consumption: 14.0 – 13.4 kWh/100 km; combined CO2 emissions: 0 g/km) to be charged in a considerably shorter time: in less than 40 minutes (10-80 percent) when local conditions permit three-phase charging. Furthermore, smart offers a wallbox as a special item of equipment.
