The A-Class: Recreational athlete

2012 was a year of paradigm change in the compact class. The new A-Class was a radical departure from the preceding series. And a successful one: as the most progressive model in the compact class, the model series has done much to make the brand more youthful. As part of the facelift in September 2015, Mercedes-Benz met the wishes of many customers who had expressed a desire for more comfort without compromising on dynamism. One particularly sporty production model "engineered by AMG" is the A 250 Sport 4MATIC rated at 160 kW (218 hp) (fuel consumption combined: 6.7 l/100 km, combined CO2 emissions: 156 g/km).

Striking lines, dynamically curved surfaces and coupé-like window lines characterise the exterior of the A-Class, following the design philosophy of Sensual Purity. The more pronounced arrow shape of the front bumper since the 2015 facelift, together with the diamond radiator grille, LED High Performance headlamps (optional extra) and distinctively designed tail lights with exhaust tailpipe trim elements integrated into the bumper emphasise the sportiness and dynamism of the successful compact-class series in the current generation.

An instrument cluster of tubular design with classy dial graphics and anodised switches upgrades the high-quality interior, as does the large, free-standing and frameless display of the infotainment system, which is optionally available with a larger 20.3 cm (8-inch) screen.

The current generation of the A-Class was the first Mercedes-Benz model to feature comprehensive smartphone integration: Apple® CarPlay® (for iPhone® users) and Android Auto are available. In the case of e.g. Apple® CarPlay® the system supports telephoning, navigation and listening to music, receiving and sending text messages and emails as well as Siri voice control.

The A 250 Sport 4MATIC rated at 160 kW (218 hp) and with the 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission is the sporty production model "engineered by AMG". The vehicle's particularly dynamic driving qualities are characterised by features that include a front axle developed by Mercedes-AMG and an AMG sports suspension that has been tuned to match, plus AMG speed-sensitive sports steering. The DYNAMIC SELECT mode selector is included as standard. The sporty driving characteristics are also enhanced by the special engine and transmission configuration, as well as modified ESP®. The exhaust note is also more emotional thanks to a modified exhaust system.

The design of the A 250 Sport 4MATIC also lives up to its name. The "AMG Line" design and equipment line is standard, with "Sport" badges embellishing the front wings. The Sport models feature AMG 18-inch 5-spoke light-alloy wheels, painted black with a high-sheen finish, with size 235/40 R 18 tyres all-round and red-painted brake callipers. In addition, red detailing on the AMG front and rear aprons further underlines the dynamic positioning. The highlighting effect is carried through into the interior, with designo seat belts in red, the leather multifunction sports steering wheel with a flattened bottom section and floor mats with "Sport" lettering.
