Mercedes-Benz Vans: Good news at the IAA: Mercedes-Benz Vito wins German Commercial Vehicle Prize 2016
- The Vito impressed the judges especially with its driving dynamics and economy
- The prize is awarded by the publishing house Holzmann Medien and will be presented on 23 September at the IAA in Hanover
Stuttgart – The Mercedes-Benz Vito has won the German Commercial Vehicle Prize 2016 (Deutscher Nutzfahrzeugpreis) in the category for vans with three tonnes gross vehicle weight. Up against a strong field, the all-rounder with the star prevailed against the competition after two days of intensive tests and was awarded the coveted prize by the 15-member judging panel of tradespeople. The award was being run for the 13th time by the publishing house Holzmann Medien (Deutsche Handwerkszeitung, handwerk magazin). In addition to tests while stationary and on the move, the scoring also took account of an independent economic analysis. The prize-winning Vito 109 CDI panel van impressed especially with its driving dynamics. Yet its economic efficiency also spoke in favour of the Mercedes-Benz mid-size van, which impressed in the test with its 65 kW (88 hp) diesel engine (fuel consumption combined: 6,3 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 166 g/km), front-wheel drive and six-speed manual transmission. The prize will be presented on 23 September at the IAA in Hanover.
"We're delighted to have won the German Commercial Vehicle Prize 2016 with the Mercedes-Benz Vito. The verdict of the judging panel, which was made up of tradespeople from the real world, shows that we have the right vans for our customers in our product line-up", says Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans. "The Vito is an essential component of the success story of Mercedes-Benz Vans, as proved by its sales figures in the second quarter of 2016, which increased by 26 percent to 24 700 units."
Economical and safe driving pleasure
With the Vito, Mercedes-Benz sets the benchmark for mid-size vans. The diversity and versatility of the vehicle, which is available as a panel van, Mixto and Tourer, make the van a genuine trade specialist and fleet all-rounder for a wide range of different customer groups. The Vito is the first van in its class which is available with front-, rear- and all-wheel drive. A payload of up to almost 1.3 t makes the victorious Vito panel van the champion cargo carrier in its class. Another useful feature is the under-seat stowing capability of the front seats, which increases the loading length by around 15 cm across the entire width. The Vito panel is equipped with airbags and a seat belt reminder for both the driver and passengers as standard. The standard equipment also includes a tyre pressure monitor and Crosswind Assist, which virtually eliminates the effects of wind gusts on the vehicle. The prize-winning vehicle also features additional assistance systems, such as Active Parking Assist and Attention Assist, which measures various parameters to deduce the driver's fatigue level.
