The supreme administrative authority (Conseil General) of the French department of Bas-Rhin (capital: Strasbourg) has placed a major order for Setra regular rural-service buses in France. 52 vehicles of the Setra MultiClass 400 line offering 51, 59 and 65 seats and measuring 12 m, 14 m and 15 m in length will be delivered in Strasbourg by the end of October.
Daimler Buses has secured for itself the biggest order in South America this year. As a result, the world’s largest bus manufacturer delivers 1,045 Mercedes-Benz city bus chassis to Santiago de Chile since October. The vehicles are destined for the Transsantiago public transport system, which was introduced in 2007. Since then the system has been providing Chile’s capital city and the surrounding area with a bus and subway infrastructure.
The new Setra ComfortClass 400 has its world premiere at Busworld 2009 in Kortrijk. Working closely with the design, production and sales departments, the developers have implemented more than 30 new features in this touring coach model series. The resulting vehicles are not only better-looking than ever, thanks to the updated design treatment of the front corner elements, but also feature an even more comprehensive array of technical refinements including a significantly enhanced safety package.
Mercedes-Benz Buses is presenting numerous new products at the Busworld fair, Europe’s largest fair dedicated to buses and coaches, which will be held in Kortrijk/Belgium from 16 - 21 October. In Hall 5 and the outside display area, a larger number of buses and coaches will demonstrate the great innovative strength and product diversity of Mercedes-Benz as a full-line supplier.
The European bus and coach jury at this year's international bus and coach fair, "Busworld Kortrijk", has crowned the Mercedes-Benz Travego, currently available since the beginning of 2009 in its third generation, "Coach of the Year 2010". The trophy was awarded by Stuart Jones, president of the Coach of the Year jury, to Michael Göpfarth, manager of the Mercedes-Benz Bus and Coach Unit of EvoBus GmbH, on 15 October. The Travego emerged victorious after the jury of experts from 17 European countries put the Travego through its paces against four other European competitors at the Coach Euro Test in June 2009 in Senlis, Paris.
