New high-floor bus as classic double-earner
Another Setra product having its world premiere at Busworld 2009 in Kortrijk is the new high-floor S 416 H bus. This high-floor bus is a new MultiClass 400 model which will be available in the future in the form of 12 and 13-metre variants with two axles (S415/416). The advantage of the new rural-service bus, which will be available from March 2010, is obvious. With its aisle at about 1040 mm above the road, it has been possible to design the high-floor vehicle with an attractive luggage capacity of up to 7.9 m³. This makes it a classic double-earner for bus and coach operators. A rural regular-service bus from Monday to Friday, it is ideally suited for weekend excursion work. The vehicle premiered in Kortrijk can seat 56 passengers. It is equipped with an OM 457 hLA engine developing 260 kW (354 hp) and a GO 190 transmission with a VR 115 retarder.
S 415 NF: the winner in the bus sector
The second representative of the MultiClass 400 which the Setra brand is showing in Belgium is a two-door S 415 NF. Introduced in 2006 to extend the Setra product range in the regular-service and excursion sectors, the success of this low-floor bus was recognised officially when it was voted "Bus of the Year 2009" by a team of European judges who assessed the competing vehicles on the basis of their suitability for everyday use as well as their build quality, design concept and economy.
The S 415 NF on show on the Setra stand can seat 40 passengers and includes features such as air conditioning for the driver's area, an enhanced version of the 32-kw roof-mounted air conditioning system for the passenger compartment and pneumatically controlled outward swinging doors.
S 417 UL with wheelchair lift at entrance 2
The S 417 UL with its inclined front end, integral exterior mirror system, two outward-swinging doors and a Braun wheelchair lift at entrance 2 can be found in the open-air section of the show site. At 14 metres in length, the bus can seat a total of 61 passengers with the seating configuration which features in the show vehicle.
The MultiClass 400 range
Regular-service operations on weekdays and the ideal vehicle for weekend excursions: the MultiClass 400 excels with outstanding versatility, cost-effectiveness, comfort and safety. Bus operators now have a choice of seven models in this Setra product segment.
With its length of just 10.80 metres, the S 412 UL is the most manoeuvrable model and is specifically design for regular-service operations with its 45 "Transit" seats manufactured in-house. Its compact length makes it ideal for cost-effective regular-service routes in topographically difficult regions with narrow and steep passes. The other vehicles in the MultiClass 400 series are the 12.20-metre-long S 415 UL, the 13.04-metre-long S 416 UL, the S 417 UL measuring 14.05 metres and the 14.98-metre-long S 419 UL. Plenty of luggage capacity, comfortable seats and a versatile range of appointments, such as a galley, toilet and air conditioning system, mean that these vehicles offer the ideal combination of attributes for regular-service and touring operations.
And when a low-floor bus is called for, the entry height for the 12-metre-long S 415 NF and 13-metre-long S 416 NF is just 360 mm when fitted with 11 R 22.5 tyres all round, with direct access to the level interior. Tailor-made for regular-service operations with large passenger flows and varied applications, these two vehicles are available with innovative door solutions, cockpit variants, different destination displays and numerous seating options.
Also notable for their flowing forms and dynamic lines, the low-floor models are designed for regular-service routes where the highest standards of passenger comfort and vehicle availability are called for. They offer optimum accommodation for passengers of all ages including wheelchair users.
