DaimlerChrysler Financial Services and Cranbrook Academy of Art Select First Recipient of Emerging Artist Award
  • US-American Artist Mark Moskovitz awarded
  • Exhibition of Finalist’s works in Berlin
DaimlerChrysler Financial Services, the world-wide vehicle financing unit of DaimlerChrysler, and the Cranbrook Academy of Art, the internationally-acclaimed fine arts graduate school community, have selected the recipient of the first-ever Emerging Artist Award.

The US-American artist Mark Moskovitz receives the award for his work “Writer’s Cabin” (3D-Design). It is a full-scale cabin completely furnished with Moskovitz’s conceptual designs, each addressing the “deliberate living” advocated by American philosopher Henry David Thoreau.

Mark Moskovitz’ and the other 9 finalists works represent 10 disciplines of Modern Art: 3D Design, 2D Design, Ceramics, Sculpture, Print Media, Painting, Photography, Fiber, Metalsmithing and Architecture.

The work of Mark Moskovitz and the nine other Cranbrook graduates, who were nominated for the award, will be presented in an exhibition at DaimlerChrysler Financial Services’ headquarters at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. The opening of the exhibition will be July 21st. The exhibition will be open to the public for two weeks daily from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.

“This graduating class represents the leading-edge modern artists of tomorrow,” explained Jürgen Walker, Chairman of DaimlerChrysler Financial Services. “All of us at DaimlerChrysler Financial Services are excited to have the opportunity to support their visions of the future.” DaimlerChrysler Financial Services and the Cranbrook Academy of Art are connected through a long-lasting and far-ranging partnership.

Gerhardt Knodel, Director of the Cranbrook Academy of Art, said the Emerging Artist Award is a great chance for Cranbrook graduates to have their work exhibited in Berlin, a cultural center in the art world. “This award reflects an emerging opportunity of discovery and experience for our graduates,” Knodel said.

Additionally, paintings of Beverly Fishman, Artist-in-Residence and Head of the Painting Department at Cranbrook Academy of Art, will be displayed in the company’s atrium gallery. Ms. Fishman recently received a Guggenheim Fellowship Award 2005. Guggenheim Fellows are appointed on the basis of distinguished achievements in the past and exceptional promise for the future.
