International vehicle specialists from the bodybuilding sector for firefighting vehicles recently came together for a two-day event to find out about new products from the special-purpose vehicles product unit at Mercedes-Benz. The focus was on the different Unimog model series, the new all-wheel drive Zetros truck and the Econic with its low and high cab variants.
Brazil is the largest market for Mercedes-Benz trucks in the world in this year. Between January and September 2009, the Brazilian unit of Daimler Trucks registered sales volume of more than 23,000 units of all weight classes. This equals a decrease of -20% compared to the same period of the record year 2008, a decline that has been much lower than in other major Mercedes-Benz truck market worldwide.
Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) has presented its customers two new heavy-duty Class 8 trucks: the updated Freightliner Coronado for on-highway use and the Freightliner Coronado Severe Duty (SD) for vocational applications such as construction sector or municipalities.
Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corporation (MFTBC) has sold ten hybrid trucks to an Irish company. The Fuso Canter Eco Hybrid is the first series-production hybrid truck to be sold in Europe. The customer is Ireland’s leading utility company, the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) in Dublin. ESB plans to use the vehicles for customer service and for infrastructure maintenance in Ireland. The Irish Government has granted a special permit for the Japanese hybrid trucks.
Flexibility and cost-effectiveness are two of the outstanding traits of the Fuso Canter, making it a true workhorse for trades and crafts. Even stonemasons and sculptors appreciate the qualities and attributes of the Fuso Canter, using it on an increasing basis for their tough day-to-day assignments. Whether it be transporting raw materials such as stone blocks and slabs from the quarry to the workshop or moving effigies and gravestones to graveyards or resting places.
