smart times 2013 in Lucerne: A big gathering for little smarts

From 23 to 25 August 2013 the worldwide smart fan community will come together on the south bank of Lake Lucerne against the scenic backdrop of the Alps for this year’s smart times. Several thousand smart enthusiasts are expected in Buochs, Lucerne with their vehicles of all smart model series, some of which have been painstakingly customised or exotically modified by their owners.

car2go North America LLC, one of the fastest growing carsharing companies worldwide and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Daimler North America, will launch its unique point-to-point carsharing model in Denver on June 8. Denver will be the tenth North American city added to car2go’s roster. car2go will introduce a network of 300 car2go edition smart fortwo vehicles that will be available for shared use in the metropolitan Denver area, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. car2go, the pioneer of simple-to-use carsharing-schemes from Daimler and Europcar, expands its business area in London starting June 2013. In December 2012 car2go launched in two boroughs (Islington and Sutton), the service is now also available in large areas of Wimbledon, Raynes Park, Kingston, Richmond, South Lambeth, South Southwark and Croydon. In the new business area the 500 smart cars can be rented and parked in all legal and unrestricted free-parking areas without considering any fixed rental station.

Green light for smart electric drive in China

With the new smart electric drive, the smart brand is further expanding its leading position in the field of urban mobility. The Stuttgart-based company will soon be bringing fully electric motoring to China, its third-largest market, where the smart fortwo electric drive will be available before the year is out. This means that smart will be the first European importer to sell a fully electric vehicle on the Chinese market. The Chinese government has now given the green light for approval of the zero-local-emission runabout.

smart remains the CO2 champion

smart continues to have the new car fleet with the lowest CO2 emissions in Germany. According to registration figures from the German Federal Office for Motor Vehicles the fleet average of all new smart vehicles registered in 2012 was 96.9 grams CO2 per kilometre – a reduction of 2.5 percent compared with 2011. This means that the brand leads by a large margin.
